They have a nice golf course - Tierra Santa. Just east of Weslaco in Mercedes they've opened an Outlet Mall. I haven't been there, but I've heard it has a lot of good stores. South Padre Island is about a 50 minute drive. If you go South of Weslaco to Progreso, Mexico you'll find some good authentic Mexican restaurants. During the Winter, the place will be loaded with Winter Texans. The restaurant I usually go to is Arturos.

I live in McAllen, so I'm not as familiar with Weslaco and I'm totally out of the night life scene, but I've loved growing up in the Valley.

Arturos???? That place blows! Its not authentic at all. Any taco stand by the street is much better and much cheaper.

Wow - picky bastages. Next time you go try the frog legs or the quail. Part of the "authenticity" of a Mexican restaurant is the number of waiters serving. You can hardly put down your glass without someone bringing you a fresh drink.

Nombre Bro...Arturo's is a tourist trap. Of course they are going to take great care of you...they cater to tourists. The snow birds love it there too.

I would stay somewhere between the island and Weslaco and spend as much time as possible on the beach.

I'm guessing McAllen is the nightlife spot for Weslaco peeps.

My parent's are from Weslaco. Here is a list of what is good

1.) Ciro's (mexican food)
2.) Bravo's Taco Loco (mexican food)

that is all...the good news is McAllen is only a 20 min drive away

Also I hear there is a good band (if you like country music) that plays at the Best Western in Weslaco every Saturday night.

Grew up in Weslaco...for the better part of 30 years, Keno Cafe was THE place...it's been for s_ _t the past 15 years (Arturo's is the same story...it used to be great in the 60's and 70's). Try Milanos if you like Italian. Great family place and really good food.
