Do tell! I'm relatively new to Tyler and always curious about the lay of the land around here!

As a company they basically exploit their home market with high prices. I was shocked at how expensive they were when I moved here. If you listen to rumors, supposedly Walmart increased their normal prices when they realized how uncompetitive brookshires is (but again that is a rumor I cannot confirm).

As people I haven't met any but I know of some of the things they support and I am glad that they are active in the community. I can't say a bad thing about them.

As far as prices go, I know (from a little bit of experience) that their prices in other small towns are consistent with their prices in Tyler. So at least they're consistent with being expensive.

Their produce is 10 times better than Wal Mart....and their meat counter is 100 times better. As far as high prices on everything else, it boggles my mind how they're as busy as they are.

Stive.....I like brookshires. Try Fresh....prices are high, selection is amazing!

Oh sure. I've been to both and love the produce/butcher area at Fresh.

I wish we could have a HEB here but with the gentlemen's agreement that both companies have together it will never happen.

Yep.

I'm fine with Brookshires. For our normal shopping, we go to Walmart as it is typically $50-$75 a week less expensive than Brookshires, but for produce and meat, I wouldn't touch Walmart's selection if they were paying me. The Brookshires on Rice Rd has a pretty great produce selection. Super 1 produce is hit or miss.

For steaks, I really like the packs of ribeyes from Sam's. I was surprised, but they have a pretty good meat selection there. The quality is much, much better than Walmarts.

I actually really like Fresh. We don't ever do any grocery shopping there, but about once a month we have dinner on the patio. It's a great place for live music, everybody can get different stuff to eat, and the kids can run around.

Its funny you say that because Mansion on the hill used to buy their meat there back when it existed

The HEB gentlemen's agreement is mentioned frequently but I'm not so sure about it. A good friend (and ag) in nac knows the guy who owned the building HEB leased when they were there. Butchers threatened to unionize and HEB said they'd pull out of east texas if they did. Butchers did it anyways and HEB closed up about 6 locations out here. The agreement might have been made after but this is not a long time thing.

I didn't mean in East Texas in general i just meant Tyler. The horse told me that there would never be one in Tyler because of said agreement and there would never be a Brookshires or Fresh in SA.

The meat and fruit selection in fresh is hard to beat, I will give them that.

You'll never see a Brookshire's anywhere near SA because they'd have to cross Brookshire Brothers territory (gag) to do it. That's the actual handshake agreement I was aware of.

I always assumed you were paying for the extra service at brookshires (baggers namely)

and their butcher rocks.
