I'd always heard that De Kalb vs. New Boston was the oldest rivalry in the state.

In looking for proof, I found one site that said lufkin vs. Nac starting in either 1909 or 1910 and I found one site that said Longview vs. Marshall 1909. So I think it is one of those two.

The longest continually played game is El Campo vs. Bay city games since 1920.

I was at the New Boston/De Kalb game a couple of weeks back and everybody there was saying it the oldest rivalry in the state.

NB pretty much dominated the game. The highlight of the night was at halftime, when the local bank sponsored a chance to win $5,000 if you could kick a 40 yard field goal. They pulled a De Kalb guy out of the stands, with zero practice or warm-ups he split the uprights. Folks in the stands went crazy and the bankers looked stunned somebody actually made one.

Good times.

What about Troup and Arp? That's a pretty big rivalry here.

In the 50's, in East Texas, It was Atlanta vs DeKalb. It was pure hate.

When I was the PA announcer for De Kalb, I used to make a verry big deal about the rivalry. It made for a fun game (at least for me) when you could rouse the crowd to yell as loud as (what seemed like) Kyle Field for a few minutes-

Then the head ref climbed the stairs to the press box and told me to knock it off, even though it was between plays, during timeouts, etc. He said he couldn't talk to his guys on the field because of the noise...

I was like, WTF?! But I complied, since I didn't want to get thrown out of the stadium.
