I'll be in Tyler this next weekend. I haven't been to East Texas in years - whats there to do? I'm going for a family funeral - so a bar would probably be the venue. I realize that Tyler used to be dry, don't know if it is now, but regardless there has always been wiggle room on that.

Shreveport is 100 miles down I-20. That's an option.

Bennigans on 110 has a bar, so does Texas Roadhouse on the S. loop. I usually go to one of those when we're in town visiting the MIL.

I haven't ventured downtown in years, but I think they have watering holes too.

Wow! The best thing to do in Tyler is to go to Bennigans or drive somewhere else. That is a bit of an idictment on the town there. I don't doubt your accuracy, I just didn't remember it being that slow.

im from tyler and yes the county is still dry, however the best bar's are a bar on Grande off of broadway called down under pub. It is young and Ive heard it is good. I do know that downtown there is don juan's with an upstairs bar, Jakes , and a sports bar all right together. Of course there is Ricks downtown as well but that is only if you are trashy and have nothing better to do

I haven't been to bennagins so I wouldn't know about that.

Not sure if Bennigan's is a good bet for anything other than eating and getting hammered. The last time I was in there, a boatload of kids were sitting at the bar.

As for Down Under Pub, never been- but it looks like a cool place from the outside. It's in one of those strip center/office parks on Grande. Off Broadway, south of the loop.

Weekend in T-town......"go across" and enjoy some roadies on the way back to your friends house. Make a few phone calls to see "whats up". Learn of Billy Sam's field party out by Lake Tyler. Go drink copious amounts of cheap keg beer and trashcan punch until the cops bust the party. Head back to town to one of your friend's friend's apartment party...give some cash to someone who is "going across" to get more beer.....etc, etc, etc....

Repaet weekend after countless weekend

Go east 20 miles toward Kilgore on Texas 31 and look for the Country Tavern on the left a mile or two past the Gregg County line.

You'll know when you hit the country line by the liquor stores. The Country Tavern isn't a tavern, it's a joint with the best ribs this side of heaven.

no they couldn't keep them there. no one wanted to watch them or the team that came in after them play. both of them sucked and going to games was awful. so they both left.

wildcatters damn that was a long time ago. i think i was in junior high when they left.
