Thats right! Robert E. Lee in Tyler won district for the first time in 20+ years. When I played it was for Jones who never won an outright District Championship. Now two years after Jones is gone one of the best high school coaches (Alan Johnston) wins district with less talent than Jones had his last four years! Go Lee!

if you want to go back to the mid-jones era i would agree with you up until 2001-2002. We played pinetree my junior and senior years and kicked their silly po-dunk asses.

and right now i would take lee over any other team in east texas. not on talent but on the ability of the coach to get the players to do what is needed to win.

If I remember correctly, in '99 it was PA Lincoln (I do remember it was the Bees or Hornets or something, the fans made buzzing sounds), in '98 I want to say it was Dallas Lincoln. Earlier in that playoffs, we beat Lancaster who was suppose to be the best in the state. I could be wrong with the teams or dates on these but for some reason I think this is right.

Maybe ruddyduck or whatever his screenname is can get on here and give us confirmations. I would know better but I played that communist sport that was played at the same time of year as basketball so I didn't get a chance to go to as many games as I would have liked.

Pine Tree Basketball is one of our pride programs along with the communist sport for both men and women and baseball. To bad we can't brag about football, I think there are some freshmen teams in the state that could beat our varsity.

P.S. Brennus would be correct on his assumption of Macksimus, though. And Lee should just be glad that Flannigan left or Pine Tree would have the best coach in E. Texas possibly the state.

In 2002, I played for PT and Tyler Lee blew except for Kirkland, a 6'9" guy who never gave up the ball, and is still playing for Cincinatti. Kirkland was Tyler Lee in 2002. And Po Dunk PT damn near won anyways.

i think bigtone is right...i think it was the year i said was dallas lincoln...we might have beaten d. lincoln and lancaster that year to lose to highland park with chris young. but who knows my memory is a little fuzzy.

2002 was my senior year and i played with armein. he was our best player but we had a better team by far than the team lee has this year. our problem was as you stated jones let armein do whatever he wanted and that meant he would be a ball hog. never passed unless he had to. I hated playing with him and under jones. but we had a team that if coached right should have gone far into the playoffs but alas, jones was an awful coach.

our sophomore year was the year Chris Young owned us. I remember it now. We beat Lincoln and Lancaster to play HP...serious pwnage.

We also got a gun pulled on us on the way back from the game...who remembers that?

I remember that, we were in the 'burban on the way back to Longview.

It's funny to hear Lee talk about the gra ndeur of their program and how bad PT's is. While I will not refute the fact that PT has gone down the sh*tter recently, a few good years from Lee does not make up for the fact that, at least in my 3 years on varsity, PT beat the hell out of Lee every year, sometimes twice with the local tournaments. We also never lost a game to Longview, Nac, Lufkin or JT.

I was a junior in 02 and our coach shared with us after the game @ Lee that y'alls coach couldnt stand armein. Said he hated the way he played. He must have got away with everything. I remember all he did against us was shoot nba threes or go straight to the hole and score or whine for a foul if he didnt. Must have sucked to play with him.

I was at the HP game and both PA Lincoln games. I remember driving down to CS to watch Pt get trampled but the next year, first Friday year, having the lead most of the game. I remember the fire marshall locking people out of playoff games b/c of fire codes. One game @ Whitehouse, my 9th grade year, the place was packed the whole second half and the varsity didnt play until after the jv game. Awesome.

I remember all those Pine Tree games. I got tossed out of the Whitehouse games twice... once by the cop, once by our superintendent.

Our students were brutal, and I was proud.
