Of the 2, which would you recommend and why? The wife and I want to take the boys, 6,3, and 1, to the beach for the weekend. I'd go to Florida, but the wife wants to stay close to home.

It's Jamaica Beach, and if you go check out www.sandandsea.com for beach rentals. Not that I think it's any better than Surfside, I'm just saying.

Just got back - drove through Jamaica Beach on the way to Surfside and for a family with kids would recommend Jamaica Beach. Not much in Surfside for families - a beach, a fishing jetty next to a park and a few restaurants and bars. Not much in Jamaica Beach either, but it's closer to Galveston if you want to go do something and is a bit more upscale than Surfside.
