Just received the following press release from TxDOT
The Galveston/Bolivar Ferry is currently operating with three vessels. One vessel operates 24-hours a day and a second vessel is placed into operation at 6 AM each morning. The third vessel will be placed in service later in the day based on availability of vessels and crews to operate the vessels, and traffic volumes.
On December 16, 2010, the ferry vessel Gibb Gilchrist experienced a mechanical problem related to a propulsion generator. Estimated repair time is two to six weeks. This estimated repair timeline is subject to change as work progresses. The ferry vessel D.C. Greer is currently at the shipyard for regularly scheduled maintenance; therefore, only three vessels are available for service. Any unforeseen breakdowns will result in a reduction in service to two vessels. Ferry maintenance personnel will make every effort to make repairs to the ferry vessel Gibb Gilchrist as quickly as possible to minimize any inconvenience during this reduction in service.
A U.S. Coast Guard inspection is scheduled for the ferry vessel Robert H. Dedman on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 9AM, and Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 9 AM, which will result in a two vessel operation until the vessel passes inspection. Ferry maintenance personnel will strive to minimize the downtime on the vessel.
The public may call (409) 795-2230 for current ferry traffic or wait time information.
