Is it just insane? Want to take my family on a vacation but am wondering if it's not even worth being in Galveston with the spring break crowd.

It is nothing like South Padre. It is very family friendly.

Port Aransas or Rockport over Galveston. But 3 weeks before hand Galveston will be easier to find somewhere to stay.

galveston's definitely more crowded during spring break, but not overwhelmingly so. plenty of family-friendly stuff to do too.
