Ah, Galveston seafood.
Shrimp N'Stuff is a whole hell of a lot better than it has to be for what it is. That place used to make its lifeblood off of high school students (the only public high school in town is two blocks up) back when the inmates were allowed to leave the campus for lunch. It's fried, fried-er, and fried-est, but it's done right--and Bop is right, it is a definite 'local' place.
Benno's is hit or miss, IMO...I've had to wait way too long for food on some occasions but it's the best Galveston example of 'Louisiana style' seafood.
Fisherman's Wharf was a charming place to get fresh seafood thirty years ago, and had a real fish counter to boot. Now it's just another Landry's chain establishment.
Gaido's...just makes me sad. There was a time when that was one of the ten best restaurants in the greater Houston area...maybe Texas. To call it a shell of itself is an insult to places that are shells of themselves. Similar story with the King's Inn in South Texas, although Gaido's at its best was better.
Best seafood in town is probably Shearn's at Moody Gardens, although the chef has literally been serving the same menu for 20 years (dating back to when he was at another place). It's overpriced though, and stuffier than a Galveston restaurant needs to be.
