HEY pendejo este pregunta "?ES corpus todavia un vertedero?.

I just moved here last month. Grew up in Brazos county so I will use that as a reference.

Northside/Westside, whatever it is called (West of Kostoryz) reminds me of Hearne. Low income, high crime craphole that is thought of as a dump. I see lots of homeless and scammers asking for money when I come though on work.

Central area, North of SPID, East of Kostoryz reminds me of Bryan. Lower to mid socioeconomic. Generally good people, just poor(er than Southside). Pockets of crappy neighborhoods with crime. This is where I currently live. Had a 16 year old shoot another 16 year old on Independence Day about 6 houses down. Probably gang related but has not been reported yet.

South side reminds me of College Station. Higher socioeconomic area with less crime. Some older established neighborhoods, but with areas that are clones of the soulless Houston suburbs. Cookie cutter houses on matchbox-sized lots adjacent to strip centers and chain stores.

The island was nice the few times I have been out there. I will hold off judgment on it until the tourists leave.

Calallen seems nice as well.

Flour Bluff seems like a great place to buy meth. This area confuses me because it is flanked by nicer areas and is close to NAS and TAMUCC.

The people I have met thus far are good, decent people. I am not sure how to word it, but the culture is very unambitious/unmotivated. It reminds me a lot of Galveston culture so it may be a coastal thing. The exact opposite of Dallas pretentiousness. I don't see many flashy cars driving around or people wearing fancy clothes.

So far, I am liking the area. My first job after TAMU was in the D/FW midcities. While D/FW or Houston may pay more, I do not want to live in those areas. Corpus seems like a good balance between payrate/opportunity/lifestyle.

Just my opinion. As mentioned at the top, I have only been here a month...

We have a happy hour this week. The club has a strong young professional crowd that go to the happy hours and then the old folks get out to the main events like the Golf Tournament, Banquet, and Lonesome Dove skeet shoot/bbq

I've grown up here and your assessment is pretty accurate, Flour Bluff is a very confusing area... the school district is suppose to be pretty decent, but back in the day we called everyone from there "bluff rats". I think with the influx of people to the island and flour bluff area w/ money it has started to turn around. Also downtown has some young professionals who live in the area and off of sante fe.

Yes you still have IDIOTS out there like the guy who punched (and killed) a man for dinging his door in a Whataburger parking lot and thieves... but there aren't as many violent crimes as bigger cities or as many homeless people *cough* Austin *cough*

I lived on Ligustrum street in the Driscoll/Oak Park section

so do the locals still call it "The sparkling city by the sea> "

Where/when is the happy hour? The website has the June date.

I must be an old folk because bbq and skeet shoot sounds like a good time to me.

Dont get me wrong they are great... but the happy hours are mostly folks under 35.

July Happy Hour is this Thursday at 6:00pm At Beamer's.

Yep when on the govt payroll ie WIC, food kupons, free housing, why would you be motivated?

Just updated it. The guy who is in charge with that is kind of slow.

The thieves suck. Invest in a good chain and a hell of a lock. Love the fishing though.

I've been back to my hometown quite a bit as of late; helping my folks move from their country home out in Calallen to a high rise senior community on the bay.

I told my Mom last week; Corpus on the Bayfront is like Miami but go a mile inland and it's like Laredo. Like a stale cake covered with a really great icing.

Corpitos is still a great place to be from because it means I don't live there. I consider myself successful if for no other reason than I left after high school and didn't return.

I've never understood why people are so proud to leave. Congratulations, you're just like millions of other people on the planet. Corpus is a great place to live, but if you need to flash your money around to make your dick feel bigger it probably isn't the place for you.

Calallen IS nice. It would be nicer if Robstown wasn't so close.

PMD03...excellent assessment considering you have only been here a month.

I am not from corpus but notice 85% of the young adults (25-35) I meet here are in fact born and raised in Corpus and they all seemed not too happy about that.

I live over by the school bay side of SPID and hadn't had an issue. I have great neighbors. I like the slower lifestyle but I wish the downtown was in fact more of a downtown.. more bars, restaurants, things to do.

The people born and raised here would be unhappy if they were born and raised anywhere. If they think Corpus sucks so much, they would've done something with their lives and left. But alas, they're losers and can't get out, so they'll wallow and act like they hate it when the reality is they hate that they've given themselves no options in their own lives.

SanAntonioAg, I'd prefer to think Corpus is the problem so I can continue to evade the fact that the problem is with me. It's easier for me this way, because I don't have to change in this scenario. Identifying myself as the problem would require much more effort on my part so I'll stick with Corpus as the problem.

Where else can you hunt, fish and surf all in one day?

I and several of my friends consider ourselves successful for having left Corpitos after high school for college and never returning.

Super successful getting out of corpus but still trolling the gulf coast forum. Get a life.
