Considering a vacation in the Pointe West area in mid-summer, but haven't ever been to that end of the island. Group of 5 families with a bunch of kids in the 10-16 age range and surf/shore/dock fishing options are an important consideration. Any opinions or recommendations on the west end generally, and fishing specifically are appreciated.

Pointe West is nice---a good resort atmosphere. Fishing in surf and bay should be good, but I've never done it there. Only issue---it's a long way from anything else----stores, restaurants, downtown, etc.

i've heard it's nice out there and if your plan is to stay out there the entire time, i'm sure you'd have fun.

but as was said, that is a long way from good restaurants and the usual tourist attractions (moody gardens, the seawall, the strand, pleasure pier, etc.)
