I loved that place and am sad even now when I think of it being closed. I really like Sea World, but I would take Sea Arama over it any day.

Here are some pictures of what the place looks like now.

we used to go to Sea Arama when i was a kid, i didn't even know seaworld existed until i was much older. Thought they were all sea arama's. Loved that huge shark tank they had there and the dolphin show was always fun.

Since my parents were both BOI and Ball High graduates, I went to that place a ton of times in the summer with my brothers.

I live about 2 blocks from Sea-Arama. I've always wondered what it used to be. I hope Tillman does something with it soon.

But do you remember the Islander motel directly across Seawall from Stewart Beach? Hurricane Alicia got it. It had a cool waterfall in the pool. I think it was named the Jack Tar or something before then.

There is also another trivia item. At 13th and Seawall there used to be a Kettle restaurant. It was small but there was always a crowd for the breakfast buffet. We always stayed at the (now old) La Quinta and we would stuff ourselves with enough grub to keep us going all day all the way to supper time.

Well, some rocket scientist decided to close it and reopen it as some other type of restaurant. It has never been successful since the original place closed. I was there this week and notice that the BBQ place they tried is now closed, too.

Karma, man, karma............

First time I ever saw an alligator was at sea-arama. I was 10 years old. The man working the exhibit somehow got behind the gator and hopped on his back then held his mouth to show us his teeth. Granted, the gator wasn't very big. But big enough to scare the heck out of me!

Sea Arama was THE place to go for field trips when I was in school, lots of memories at that place. BTW, has anyone seen the little Schlitterbahn going up next to Moody Gardens? Too bad they don't have sea life there, I would love for my kids to see that stuff here locally.

School field trips to Sea Arama were the best! Even now when I drive by it, I still wish it were open. Too bad Moody Gardens opened up the aqarium pyramid and cornered the market....

Kiss it goodbye folks...

What slowdown?: Looks like Landry’s Restaurants is driving ahead with plans to open an RV park and hotel on part of the old Sea-Arama Marineworld site. Crews began tearing down the old tourist spot this week. Landry’s, headed by island native Tilman Fertitta, plans to build the RV park and a Holiday Inn Express hotel on about 13 acres of the 23-acre site.

Great! We were running-out of hotels on the island.

I remember Sea Arama and trips with my parents and grandparents. Back then, you could actually find sea shells on Galveston beaches. Back then, you could also actually catch fish off of Galveston beaches.
