Thank you Homeland Security. Searches start tomorrow.

Chalk up another victory for an expanding big brother government wasting our taxpayer dollars and taking away more of our freedoms.

Well, well.........................
What if, what if............................

A terrorist hijacked the ferry to Cuba?
Then you woulda wished they were randomly searching the cars. Wouldn't ya?

Think they will make you take your shoes off before you get on the ferry?

If it is truly random, how is it legal? Isn't the ferry the same as a public highway or bridge? When a cop pulls you over for speeding and asks you if they can look in the trunk, you have every legal right to say no. Yes, they can hold you until they get a warrant but they just can't open it up until then.

Now if they have dogs sniffing cars and they come across something, then that I would assume to be different.

Government at it's finest--we aren't going to tell anyone what we are looking for and we won't tell you what isn't allowed but when we catch you with one of these secret items it is off to Guantanamo Bay for you.

They need to go ahead and build the bridge across and be done with it. As if waiting in line for the ferry wasn't oh-so-thrilling enough, now JoeBob Galveston County Sheriff gets to randomly check my car. How about they just keep the beaches clean.

I'm not sure if it's worth building a bridge.

How much does one of these suckers cost?

I googled it and found studies that said >200-300 million dollars. Ouch. The ferry costs 12 million a year to operate.

So, you are saying it is a done deal--the government will decide it works economically.

I'm pretty sure that the sheriff deputies won't be the ones searching the trucks.

Yeah you are right, no Joe Bob Sheriff, the searches are being done by the security contractor Seawolf Marine Patrol under guidance by TxDOT. Can anyone report a personal experience with how it is going?
