The wife and I are going to Galveston on Friday night and need a good place to eat seafood. Is Gaido's the place...or is there some place better?

I really like sitting out on the deck, overlooking the water, at Fisherman's Wharf. Food is good too.

Don't order shrimp though, it's not in season right now and won't be fresh.

Twenty five years ago Gaido's was the best place in Galveston. Gaido's is still excellent.
In our short stay, we didn't waste time anywhere else.

Two weeks ago today, I had the redfish special and the wife had the tuna special. Both were smothered in fresh lump crab. That was the best seafood I can remember having at a restaurant.

Someone mentioned the Cajun Greek to me today. Is that good?

cajun greek has decent poboys. If you're looking to for a cheap dinner..go there...but you aren't getting the great seafood like at gaidos.

I'd eat a poboy from cajun greek for lunch though...

Gaidos is still THE place IMO for the most consistently good seafood. Casey's is connected to Gaidos and is just as good but is a little more casual and the menu is not as comprehensive.

Fishermans Wharf has good views but I think the food is inconsistent. You have all of the Landry's restaurants but you can eat in those anywhere.

On the far west end of the island, at Sea Isle, is a decent place called Richards--usually good food, wine and can sit inside or outside-good sunset views while dining.

I think we'll probably either go to Gaido's or Casey's. The bad part is it's supposed to rain all weekend in Galveston, so we are going to have to look for indoor activities. Wait, scratch that, that may not be all bad.

I live on the island and will call myself an expert.

Can never go wrong w/ Gaidos.
The Cajun Greek is our favorite place because we can eat cheap if we want. They have some of the best Gumbo in town. You can get real seafood there, the portions are huge and good (again it has a cajun flare so you have to enjoy spicy).
Also if you like Cajun Food, Fish Tales is excellent and has the best etoufee i've ever had. Stay away from the stuffed jalapenos or you'll be feeling them later (they taste good though.) S

I also really like Bennos on Seawall at 14th i believe if you want fried cajun type stuff. Gaidos is still the best overall

This is probably such a late addition that it won't matter, but if any of you want to know the best kept secret listen up.

If you want to step it up a little bit and don't mind paying $20-$30 a dish, you will want to try Shearn's. Shearn's is located on the top floor of the hotel at Moody Gardens. If you don't want to spend that much you can just go up and have some cocktails. They have the best view of the island. No question about it. When I come home from Denver that is the first place I go. Watching the sunset from there is almost inspirational.

The chef (Urs Schmid) is from Sweden and used to work at The Yacht Club. He makes the best lobster bisque and bernaise sauce. Try a surf and turf with the filet mignon. You can thank me later.
