We'll be spending Sat-Mon in Beaumont playing at Jason Tyner's baseball complex (son's 11U state tourney).... can you guys recommend some good places to try? BBQ? Mexican? non-chains. Thanks.

Don's Seafood and The Tamale Co. are two of my favorites.

Both of those places are gone; the Tamale Company is, IIRC, long gone (wasn't that the one on Calder/Phelan, on the left as you're driving from I-10 to Dowlen?)

I live in Nederland. The best Mexican food in beaumont is probably Carmello's on Phelan. The best BBQ is Wille Ray's. The best seafood is Pappadeaux (I know ...chain restaurant).

Go have seafood at Sartin's West, BBQ at Fat Mac's, Cheddar's has a great menu of steaks, chicken, burgers, Mexican food at Poblano Grill. Floyd's opened up where Don's Seafood was, haven't been there yet but the guy is somehow related to the Landry's seafood people. Or go to Crockett Street and enjoy Rio Rita's mexican food or the Spindletop for steaks.

My parents say Floyds is good.

-Chula vista mexican on 11th st.
-Tokyo by Parkdale mall. it is a Japanese steakhouse.
-Poblano Grill on Dowlen. It is mexican (kinda).

I miss Novorosky's hamburgers and onion rings. I need to get over to Beuamont and get some.

Yeah...rings and a guacamole burger. That's some good eatin'.

I used to like going to Cody's, too. I wonder if it's still there.

They should have done like Mama Jack's restaurant in Kountze. It was Papa Jack's before the divorce...Mama got it in the settlement and renamed it.

By far the best Mexican Food:
Carlito's and Elena's. They are both on College St not far from MLK.

Don's seafood is closed.

It is now Floyd's Seafood which is AMAZING!!! Floyd is a member of the Landry family... as in Landry seafood.

And for BBQ Fat Mack's is the place to go.

If you want burgers drive up to Lumberton and go to Dippity's.

Go to The Schooner in Nederland. It's the best seafood in the county.

Go to Al-T's in Winnie, just south of I-10 for cajun/seafood. Acapulco in Beaumont on 10 between Washington & College (aka Hwy 90) has the best hot sauce (and coldest beer) in town.

Is Dippity's still where the Klan meets? They do have a mighty fine burger.

Oh dang. I remember driving by those little Klan get-togethers on 96 across from the road to Fletcher Emanuel.

i remeber seeing them in vidor hanging out by the gas stations off of I-10. we were comming home from parkdale once & there were crosses burning on the side of the highway.

it was also really cool when we were playing a football game in vidor & they started throwing rocks at our bus.

Those guys are cowards. One of Silsbee's best athletes ever (Doug Shankle, played linebacker at t.u.) was playing outfield in a baseball game at Vidor once. A bunch of guys were yelling the usual stuff at him. As soon as the last out of the game was recorded, he threw his glove down, jumped over the fence and challenged all of them. Those gutless wonders hit the road.
