Does anyone know of some good apartments in the Baytown area?

There is a Camden property off Baker. Probably the best apartments in town. A lot of other places in Baytown can get kind of ratty.

I grew up in Baytown and currently live in an apartment here (although I'm moving to The Woodlands next week). How much do you want to spend?

Camden (on Baker) and Stonebrook (on Rollingbrook) are both nice, but expect to pay in the $650-700 range for a 1/1.

I'm currently staying at Raintree Apartments (on Rollingbrook right near Spur 330) and my rent for a good sized (675 sq. ft) 1/1 is $525 per month, although you do have to pay a mandatory $35 for extended basic cable.

My electric bill is about $65-100/month depending on how much I use it. Water has never been over $10/month and I use it liberally.

These apartments aren't new but the management is awesome. I've had very, very few problems in the year that I've been here, but when I did have an issue, they were very quick to fix it and the maintenance staff was very kind and unintrusive.

The grounds are well maintained and it seems very safe as it is well lit in most areas. I would request a unit close to the front of the complex.
Like I said, the apartments are older, but they've aged very well because of the great maintenance.

There is no doubt that Camden or Stonebrook are nicer, and they are only about $150/month more, but when I got my first job out of school, that $150/month was a bigger deal to me than it is now (of course, I do make more money now as well).

Don't bother with those really nice & new ones by the mall if you make over $25k per year. They are gov't subsidized.

Stick to the three I mentioned and I'm sure you'll find one that fits your needs.

When are you planning on moving in? There are some new apartments being built at I10 and North Main that should be very nice as well. But they've just recently laid the foundation for these, so I'm sure it'll be at least another 6 months until they're completed...if not longer.

If you mention some other names I can tell you what to avoid, but those three are the only ones I'd recommend to anyone.

Well, there is one other new complex that I don't know the name of off Spur 330 and Market Street. Never did check them out, but I would if I were you. They look clean and pretty nice.

I'm looking to move the end of this month (just got a job down there). I have read on apartment ratings but sometimes only the people who have had bad experiences post on there so I was seeing all kinds of bad stuff. I would like to keep the rent around 500 and if there are some nice ones in the 400 range that would be great but I know that is pushing my luck. I'm not too familiar with the area but I'm hoping to go look at some of the places later this week. Are there any complexes you suggest staying away from?

I'd definetely suggest Raintree.

$525 rent
$35 extended basic cable (mandatory)
$10 water/city
$85 electric (average...I've had as low as $55 and as high as $105)
-----
$655
+ internet (<$50)
-----
Approx. $700 for everything, which ain't bad IMO.

The list of don'ts would be far longer than the list of do's in this area because real estate has been relatively cheap here for some time and there hasn't been a big demand for apartments until recently. A lot of the complexes have aged quite a bit, but Raintree has been well maintained and is well managed...which is why I recommend it.

I'll be honest- I'm sure there are other apartments in the Raintree price range in this area, but this is one of the few in that range that I'd recommend. I know there are quite a few cheaper apartments around, but if you are under $500, I think you are going to find you get what you pay for, if you know what I mean.

I haven't signed any leases yet because I am waiting till I sign my teaching contract because you never know if it could fall through yet. I'm thinking that I might stay in Seabrook, the drive really isn't that bad, and I found some apartments that I really like that even have w/d included.

Cool.

Seabrook's a really nice area...better than Baytown, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong. I was born and raised in Baytown and I'll always call it home. There are still some nice parts to settle down and raise a family.

But, for the most part, the city is sliding into the wrong direction, IMO. Lots of money is being made there...very little going back into it.

If you do decide to settle in Baytown, I'd look around Mont Belvieu area.
