I don't know if you consider Brownwood area as Central Texas, but does anyone here have any knowledge of golf courses in Brownwood. A google search yielded there is pretty much Brownwood CC (private) and Feather Bay GC, which from reviews looks to be over priced and not worth it. Is that true? Are there any hidden gems around? I have a wedding in Brownwood to go to this weekend and we're looking to play some golf on Saturday. TIA.

both are about 30 to 40 minutes and decent courses.

never done either of the brownwood ones.

Played Feather Bay last weekend. Best greens you'll find anywhere. Period. Great layout, as well. Only negative is it's 10 minutes outside of town and it's operated a little "country".

I meant to report back earlier in the week. This is absolutely true. Greens were phenomenal. Tough course though. You shank your drive in the least bit and you're not going to find your ball.

Update on Featherbay. Renamed the Hideout, after changing ownership several times, it is in phenominal shape. They water the hell out of it, and the greens are great. They have built a huge clubhouse with restaurant/bar. If you get around the area, make sure you check it out.

San Saba - about an hour away - but the "old 9" is an unbelievable gem in this part of the world.

the course meanders along the river with huge pecan trees everywhere - I promise you'll love it

Played the san saba old 9 last weekend- not bad. I played the hideout about 2 months ago-also not bad.

If I'm not mistaken there's a big tournament at Brownwood this weekend, so that's not an option anyway.
