we keep hearing these loud booms lately, seems like moreso at night. we started noticing it around three weeks ago...sounds like someone slamming a car door in my driveway. originally thought it was something at the trainyards (we live on the northside of temple) but i've talked to friends in belton and academy and they've been hearing it too. sometimes its loud enough to actually rattle the dishes in the kitchen.

anyone else hearing this lately or, better yet, anyone know what it is?

more than likely it is night training at Ft Hood.

I don't notice noises any more but that is what it was back when I could still hear.

Take a drive down East Range Road and tell me if it sounds like the noise is getting closer

ft hood was my initial thought but we've lived here three years and can't remember hearing it before. plus our friends have lived here their whole lives and hadn't noticed it to the degree it has been lately.

thought it might be something different...and hopefully temporary.

i'll check out east range road though...sounds scenic!

other possibility is a research facility in McGregor sometimes test fires engines(rockets) so if it was random it may have been them

When I was a kid in the eighties, you'd hear those booms all the time.

My wife has been hearing it for abou the same lenght of time and it is driving her crazy! (I've heard it to but do a better job of ignoring it). I grew up in west Falls County and could hear Ft Hood as a kid growing up when they were doing drills so I have just assumed that is what it is. I do wish it would stop soon though....

I ALWAYS heard booms from Ft. Hood growing up...in CAMERON. I'm telling the truth.

They have lessened over the years when the 1st Cav was deployed, but as more come back from Iraq, I suppose the "war games" have begun, again.

Ft. Hood is massive. Lots of land to make loud kabooms.

We're usually continuous rumbles, not booms. And we also have some fairly strict curfews after that big test in October '08. If it's past 9pm, it's probably not us.

I didn't know that SpaceX had taken over the facility in McGregor. I remember the Hercules plant (there goes a boom). That infamous test had me believing that that Hercules was still operational and had ceased to exist, especially when I could see the rocket exhaust from my house in Woodway.

It is how Fort Hood sounds--and after a while you just get used to it. Sounds like a massive line of thunderstorms about five miles out.

I just notice the ones that rattle the dishes now.

Yep c-jags. I haven't paid attention to any ones from Ft. Hood though.

This is a part of living in this area. I've never lived anywhere else so that unique sound has just been a part of nights for my enire life. It's just like the massive heat/humidity or having non-stop severe allergies. God bless Central Texas. LOL.

On day back around the first gulf war, they dropped a BIG bomb from a plane on Ft. Hood. This thing was 10X the normal booms you here. It broke a bunch of house window in H. Heights. Set off all the car alarms.

The next day the general when to the press and said "we won't do that again!"

We've been hearing the loud booms for a month or so in the Hewitt area. I've just assumed it was Space X.

IF I remember correctly, it was a B-52 that dropped 6 or so 500 pounders. Usually they drop 1 at a time over the range.

Growing up in Belton I'm pretty used to the the Fort Hood booms, but I was at my brother's place in Troy a few months back when they fired up one of the rocket tests, and that thing was amazing. It was literally like it was day light during the night. Really crazy sight to see.

It is booming tonight. I just wish they would make them stop at bedtime. I remember when the kids were types and it was really hard to get them to sleep with the house vibrating.

yeah there's not much between Fort Hood and my house. There's the lake and another 1.5 miles with some open land leading to the back of my house so it's close enough to make my dishes rattle in the cabinets. VERY annoying. It seriously sounds like the kids are wrestling upstairs.

Meth labs exploding in and around McLennan County, mainly in and around the Hewitt/Lorena/Robinson/Bruceville area.
