Would appreciate any reviews, recomendations, etc. I will be in Temple in June and planning a special birthday dinner for a famliy member, would welcome any thoughts.

As an aside I can remember as a child and teeneager going into Cheeves with my dad. Kind of funy to see an upscale steakhouse when I think of my dad buying khaki pants and stetson hats there.

definitely some of the better food in temple and a great place is you're looking for an upscale place.

another place you might want to look at if you're going to for a party is the reserved section at Dead Fish. The food reviews are mixed (i've had nothing but good food there) but it's great for parties in my opinion.

Probably the best dining experience in town. Food is good with good atmosphere and nice wine list. As c-jags said, it is pricey. They have two large rooms upstairs that can be used for parties. The Lobster bisque and grape salad are the awesome, and they bake their potatoes in bubble gum rosin that makes for a unique potato.

I love Cheeve's Brothers. Definitely recommend it.

Pignetti's is also very, very nice.

Nami is now downtown, and IT is nice.

Downtown Temple is booming. You won't believe all the changes. It's very vibrant and alive at night....even weekday nights. There's also a new upscale bar going in where Duckhorn Tavern was.

Cheeves also has the cheapest and coldest beer in town. Their happy hour is by far the best around!

What a coincidence. I took her there last week!

Cru - Nothing beats O'Briens brotha. We need to go drink a few there again, no doubt!

Are any of those downtown places still smoky enough to choke a friggin' horse?

Cheeves is the bomb. Go there for sure. Dead Fish is good too, but for a very nice, classy dinner, head to Cheeves.

If you have'nt been to the Happy Hour at Cheeves then you don't have any idea....the beer is SOOOoooooooooooooooooo much colder than anything I've ever had at Obriens. Not to mention you don't have to have a samari sword to cut through the smoke.....

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Obriens, but when it comes to happy hour beer, Cheeves can't be beat!
