Sounds like the slimebag is trying to win some Baylor votes.

Guy I sit across from is all for this going on and on about how funny it would be if congress told the schools they can't go.... Like that's really where their focus needs to be.........

He is actually dumb enough to claim responsibility for the mess that is the Big 12:

quote:
In 1989, as a State Senator representing Baylor University, Edwards announced that the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee would hold hearings on the then imminent breakup of the Southwest Conference, which would have most likely left Baylor outside of any major conference. Several key legislators then reminded the state’s public university boards that they had a responsibility to all the taxpayers of Texas, who supported their institutions with millions of tax dollars annually.

Within one week of Edwards’ announcement the Chancellors of the University of Texas and Texas A&M contacted Edwards and said they had decided to stay in the Southwest Conference until a more comprehensive plan could be developed for the future of Texas’ universities. The end result 5 years later, with the leadership of Governor Ann Richards and Lt. Governor Bob Bullock, was that the University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor stayed together and joined the Big 12 Conference.

Edwards observed, “I have seen first-hand the impact of the Texas Legislature on the issue of our universities’ conferences, because in 1989 several University Board members had already stated that Texas and Texas A&M were going to leave the Southwest Conference, but that quickly changed when the Legislature announced it would hold public hearings on the matter. We had a responsibility to act, we did so and it made a positive difference for the University of Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas Tech by allowing them time to stay together and build the Big 12 as we know it today.

Oh my goodness, there is a thread on the A&M football forum with financial impact quotes from Ray Perryman.

Perryman is highly respected but the impacts are more like if Baylor University ITSELF closes, not of the football team aligning with another group. So pathetic.

Perryman was on the Waco news last night saying how the STATE of Texas will be losing many millions of revenue if the Big12 splits. It was ridiculous. I told myself, yeah it would suck to be in their position and I would be trying to convince people in my favor also, but does he think the viewers are idiots? It very well could hurt Baylor, but the other schools are leaving to get the better revenue from better contracts.

Baylor can't fill their own side for an in town game...who cares what happens to them.

When the Baylor alumnus acts like the rabid Aggies, then we can possibly listen. Most other conferences want the Aggies cause their fan base will show up, stay in hotels and spend bucks even after a decade of losing seasons!!! Aggie money talks, loudly.

economically it will have an impact, but no way will the impact be what perryman reported.

baylor created this problem by lousy attendance, and not to mention it didnt belong in the big 12 to begin with. why would a major conference want baylor, hell baylor cant carry mclennan county.

Chet needs a ton of Waco area votes to keep him in congress. That's the only reason why he has been making this an issue.
