so now they are making users get a subscription to view their online news? you dont see dmn, houston chronicle, my san antonio or the austin statesman doing this.

what a joke. looks like i will just have to access my local news for the local tv sites.

i wonder how long the trib's attempt will last?

Well, it IS Waco after all. That bad taste in the water there... they PUT it in the water. It's a chemical that causes people in Waco to f*** up just about anything.

The Waco Trib is full of fail. But then again, that's not exactly breaking news. Hell, they've been failing for years.

the Tribulation editor explained the new format by saying two well respected newspapers already are set up like the New Trib is....Wall Street Journal and New York Times.................OH BABY PLEASE, let's compare the Waco Rag with a real newspaper!

Mark my words, this is going to jump up and bite them in the butt big time!

Temple also. Just short summary of stories now and most of the material you can't see unless you pay for it. Not the way of most papers in the state, but print papers are dying. I think they are all struggling for a way to survive.

yep, today you can get headlines but that is all for local news....state, national or world news you can still access

obituaries, weddings/etc, maybe even classifieds you can still access so it is just Waco news.....hello? this is not a smart move

Cameron Herald has gone to this as well... I don't get much local news anymore thanks to that. I don't read it enough to justify paying for a subscription, but it was nice to hit the high points here and there.

I don't like the way they did it but I suppose it is the only way to try and save a paper copy outfit. Very few people don't have access to computers these days and school aged children have papers in all libraries.

There are news items I would like to read about but so far between the on line tv stations and google I can get a bit of information.

Also, since it's changed hands, it seems dedicated to pumping up Baylor ad nauseum. I really don't want to pay to read propaganda.

during the sale/purchase business the picture quality went to heck also. FWIW, the locals support Baylor in that many of them went there and remained in Waco to run family businesses...they don't need to read the Tribulation to know the town gossip...it is about them and they are the ones spreading it.

We have had DMN, WSJ and I am the family member who always wanted the local news because this is where I live. I am doing just fine checking out the obits and headlines and looking elsewhere for real news and CURRENT news.

As opposed to before?

But yes, I get your point. I can practically predict the headlines and stories the day after a Baylor game now.

Before it honestly didn't contain as much Baylor stuff as the Bryan Eagle contains about A&M

I suppose with the new prez and winning a game or three has helped. The paper does cover Baylor Women's Basketball well...cause they are usually very good(probably a good reason to cover them!)

I get the Trib on Saturday and Sunday and it's been almost unbearable (no pun intended) lately. Thinking of subscribing to the Dallas Morning News, but I think I would get a really early edition of it without any sports scores.

Reminds me of the mid 80s when A&M started becoming relevant in football again. My uncle dropped his Waco Trib subscription and started getting the Waco Citizen and dad started getting the Dallas Morning News because they were so disgusted with the lack of coverage for A&M. Specifically after the 37-12 whipping we put on Texas in 1984 got put in a small story on the back page of the sports.

Here we are 26 years later and I am about to do the same thing.

That whole town is waaaaay too insular. The Trib likes to pretend that most of the people who read it just love Baylor. That's not the case, so it's not going to end well for them.

All you have to do is look at this LaceDarrius Dunn story and how it was kept under wraps. He hit the mother of his child so hard it broke both sides of her jaw and it appears (somewhere else) in print a week later.

Bo, I have mentioned this several times over the years...my husband worked with a man injured in a car accident, his two older boys were in seat belts and hurt, his baby in a car seat was killed. The Tribulation never ever put a blasted thing in about that accident. He had to be physically pulled off the guy that hit them...driving the wrong direction on the access road over by the old Ivy Twin center on Univ. Parks and 35!
