Will be in Temple the next few days and was wondering if there were any good places to run in the area (15miles from city center). I see a few parks on googlemaps, but hard to tell if they have running trails.

Any help is appreciated.

Lions park has a running trail. It includes a flat loop, or, if you want a little elevation change, a branch off that goes up a decent hill. About 100 foot elevation change.

South 5th street. Running trail with no elevation change.

There's a running trail out the lake road (west Adams) near kasberg. Never figured out where to park though.

12-15 miles? WTF? Yeah, you'll be doing laps alright. It's probably a couple miles. I guess.

Crap, why stop at 15? Just run to Austin and back.

The flat part of lions is probably a mile or so. I don't know about the one on south 5th street. It's probably longer. I'm not a jogger. Not normally, anyway.

The one out west Adams is longer as well, if you can figure out where to park. I'm not kidding. They built the trail with no place to park. Last I heard, the city was "working on it". That's been several months ago.

Or, run from 5th street, to Lions, to W. Adams, to Chisholm, to Yettie. Then do it again. That might get you to 15 miles.

Or run from Temple to Troy and back on I-35. That's about 15 miles round trip.

You can park at the rear of the S&W contintuing care hospital on Kegley. There is a little trail that leads you down to the new Pepper Creek Trail, which connects to the West Adams path.

It is amazing that the trail is there with no parking except at the far East end (and that is really for the Pepper Creek Trail).

Erac, I had heard s&w was letting people park on their parking lot. They shouldn't have to, though. It makes me wonder if some of the residents in those neighborhoods got in the city's ear and convinced them NOT to have parking so as to keep "their" park less crowded. It defies explanation.
