Or near Temple. Anybody know a good instructor for a beginner?

Thanks.

Not in Temple. Maybe Wildflower, but theres probably no one good there. Your best bet is to go to Golfsmith in Austin or something. Or maybe Bear Ridge in Waco.

Greg is no longer at Stonegate. Is he giving lessons somewhere?

Greg Antunes...that sounds familiar is he an old (now) guy who kinda looks and plays like lee trevino???

If so I took lessons from him about 25 years ago at sammons...I can't believe he's still alive.

He still gives lessons. But I wouldn't consider him good. Good for Temple, Yes. Good for the rest of the state, not really.

What about the Sammons pro?

Quit kidding around pablo? I am assuming that was a joke! If you don't want to go outside Temple, consider Wildflower or even Antunes in Killeen. I could probably get his number from a guy if you want.

Of course I am not joking. The guy's name is James Roberts. Is there something wrong, or do you just think elsewhere is better? Or do you even know the guy?

He seems like a nice guy, and his fees are reasonable. Especially considering this is for a teenage beginner. $25 for a youth under 18, and will spend an hour. Wildflower is $60 for a half hour. A beginner will need 6-8 lessons, which will run piss near $500 at Wildflower.

If it was me, I'd be willing to spend more since I have been playing for awhile and know what I want to get out of it. But these are not for me. 6 or so lessons at $25 is a lot easier to stomach for a teenage beginner than $500 for a half dozen lessons.

But thanks for the heads up.

Just checked Bear Ridge, which is now Twin Rivers I think, and they are $30 for 1/2 hour, which is a decent price.

I didn't know it was for a teenager. I would try that guy at sammons for that price, but wouldn't expect much. I don't know him. I just kow that if I was a PGA professional and knew how to give lessons, I wouldn't work at Sammons. The course is a joke.

Ha Ha. Gotcha. Well, in fairness, Sammons is an ancient course - like 90 years old, and some of the greens, no kidding, are original. It is short because that's the length courses were back then I guess(it was the original Temple Country Club).

Now, they are renovating the whole thing, and supposedly it will be very nice when done. They will combine a couple of holes, redo, replace, and relocate greens and tee boxes, and in the end it will be a par 70, with length added to most holes to make them legitimate par 4's and 5's. Couldn't lengthen AND make it par 72 because, well, it's in the middle of town and there is no room to expand. But hey, I am pulling for them. Hopefully it will be a nice muni course when it is done.

I play Stonegate, Wildflower (for tournaments and such - not a member), and Cottonwood too. I did not even know about Twin Rivers until you mentioned it. Will have to check it out. May even take a lesson or two there since the price is good.

Ray Lamb in Waco at HOT Golf http://www.hotgolfinc.com/aboutus.php

I have personally spent several years with Ray, as my teacher getting my swing from old school in to out swing to a more "covering" the ball for more penetrating trajectory.

What does Lamb charge?

Last year, he was charging me 60 an hour. If you purchase several lessons in a package he can make you a little better deal. Of course that was about year ago. His business has sense grown, so it could be more. One thing about Ray, is that he breaks it down in very simple to understand terms, and realizes that most adults are more visual learners.

About Twin Rivers, if Jeff Hughs is still there I would recommend you see him for instructions. Although a Baylor grad and former player, he is simple to understand and a damn good ball striker.

Yes, I believe Jeff Hughes is at Twin Rivers, and he is the instructor
