Used to have wonderful ribs--I thought the best in town.

Went yesterday for the first time in months. Ribs were bad at best and the little bit of brisket I bought is completely inedible. I am going to chop it up and see if the dogs will eat it.

Wish I could find a good place in Temple with a drive through window. I usually don't go into eating places--don't like eating alone or even picking up carry out.

But this one if off my list forever.

Miller's is great, but they never seemed to be open.

I have no idea where that is and do they have a drive thru?

At the corner of 2nd Ave and Penelope. I don't think it has a drive thru, but its worth the little effort it will take to get out of your car.

I was coming back from Austin Sat and decided to get Scheops (sp)to take home. I have heard on here how good it is. Absolutly the worst BBQ I have ever had. None of us in my family could eat it. Seriously, one bite and that was it for us.

Flash, I totally agree.

I've never liked Schoepf's. It's never been good, yet people rave and rave about it.

It tasted like dry roast beef with a crappy sauce.

There's a great meat market on the Frontage Road under I-35 near Ave. H (Temple) that has bbq and a meat market. It doesn't have a drive-thru, but it's amazingly wonderful. It's near WilsonArt, in that area...

Jan, you are talking about Best Quality Meats. It is pretty good.

I still think 8th St Meat Market is the best IN TEMPLE. There brisket is good and they have a drive through window.

The best BBQ in the are though is Johny's Steaks and BBQ in Salado. I wish they would put there trip tips on the menu... really good.

Schoepf's, well I guess to each their own.

Ranked last year by Texas Monthly in the Top 50 in the state, just made the list ~ #50

They are also catering Media Day @ The Super Bowl this week.

I like em, and so does a lot of people, as I live by there, and see the crowds. I also have a friend's son who works there.

Best Quality Meats is good, owned by a sip I think, as I saw all the LongWhorn stuff on the wall, and some guy who looked like an owner wearing a Star Trek hat. (turn the LongWhorn logo upside down, it looks like a Klingon ship)

Haven't been to 8th Street, but a co worker said it's the best in town.

Don't care for Fat Boys much.

I am serious that mine from there was inedible. It even made one of the dogs barf. I have never had brisket from there that I could not eat. Expensive dog food that made one of them sick.

I could not even chew it, and it was dry and had a bitter taste.

Ribs where so over salted that I had to down a ton of water to eat them.

And this used to be my favorite place.

Wow, I have serious reading comprehension problems... I was thinking Curly's Meat Market when you wrote *th St... Sorry for the really dumb post.

I haven't been in a while... that is disappointing to hear that it wasn't good.

I did think Best Quality Meat was pretty good though. it doesn't have a drive through though, but it almost feels like a little meat market inside... not really a restaurant. SO it is pretty easy to get in and out pretty quick.

Oh yeah, I agree, Schoepf's... is not very good.

It is popular because of the atmosphere and the look of the place... combine that with the outdoor concerts now and it's "popular" to magazine types. I judge a BBQ place on brisket, and brisket alone. And their's is not very good.

i like scheopfs ok. it's not as great as it's biggest fans make it out to be and it's not as bad as its worst critics do either. if i'm paying i'd rather go to miller's.

fortunately most of my account reps love the place and schedule every meeting at 11 or 1 so they can take me there. and i'm ok w/ that.

Al's BBQ at Ave M and 25th St has a drive thru. Good chopped beef sandwiches and catfish.
