Was in Temple this weekend and had lunch at Meggs Cafe, wife had the roasted beet salad and I had the roasted turkey sandwich, very good will eat there again. Food and service excellent, they also have a bakery in front (Hamilton Bread Co.)

No really. I hear the food and service are good, but the place is pricey. Like, REALLY pricey for what you get.

food is good, but is extremely overpriced. I am shocked it is still open with the prices they charge. Breakfast for two cost us over $30.

Yep, that's what I hear.

From what I understand, they do use very high quality ingredients, much if which is locally grown. Also, their stuff is made from scratch, right down to the potato chips.

Premium ingredients, but at a premium price. We'll see if it works out.

Interesting... didn't know they shopped local for their ingredients. I need to give it a try.

I love their food, it is a little high but not that bad.

All I have ever tried is their breakfast foods, can't bring myself to order anything else.

We spend 23 at mcallisters so 30 at a nicer place with waiters is ok. Hell, we spend over 20 at 5 guys for a freaking hamburger.

I've been there once.

While the food was good, I disliked the seating. It's all VERY close to other tables.
A man sitting next to us actually jumped into our conversation.

That's a little too much "togetherness", for me.

It was good, but I haven't been back.

JAW,

I would say there are places in Temple where a family of four can get a nice breakfast for $30. Probably even much less at fast food types.

You can get a breakfast big enough to feed Fort Hood at Jaliscos in Belton for like 5 bucks. And it's damn good.

BTW, if you go to the Belton Jaliscos, get the fried Ice Cream for dessert. Unbelievable. Enough to feed at least two.

Jalisco's on Central Ave. in Belton has great food. Highly recommended.

I went to Meggs and it was very good. What I had definitely was not chick food. as for price, yeah, it's higher that what I'm used to, but the portion was big, and it was obviously top quality, fresh ingredients. I got an egg sandwich and it was BIG. Two over medium eggs, fresh ham (not some crap out of a package), homemade bread made that day I believe with a large side of homemade potatoes (fried and seasoned). It was 9 bucks. finished half of it, and ate the rest later.

So, maybe I should have tried it before speaking. It is VERY good and I would definitely go back.

That said, I got it to go. I can see how you could run a tab up if you ate in and got drinks. Add the tip, and yeah, you're looking at $30 for two people. So, no, Can't do it every day. But then an equivalent PORTION (not quality) of food at waterburger probably wouldn't be TOO much less, and it's fast food.

Anyway, I liked it. I recommend it, and you CAN cut corners to save money.

Oh, almost forgot, try the house hot sauce. Very good, and with a kick!

Crusaders, I have no doubt you can get cheaper food. But to say Megg's is extremely overprice is an exageration. It is a nice cafe with fresh homemade food, not a greasy spoon.

Everything I have had at Megg's was freaking amazing.

Janag, if you don't like to sit close don't go to NYC. Alot of the eateries in Manhattan have you sitting touching the person beside you.

I've been to NYC, twice.

I didn't like it, but the restaurants weren't the reason...

I DO like Chicago, however.

Hmmmm. That's funny. I have been to both, and I also like Chicago better. Just don't care for NYC.

I have never been to Chicago.

I love NYC. Been there 5 times in the last 2 years and itchin to go back.

The small hole in the wall places are amazing. Space is a premium, so small doesn't mean cheap or bad.

No it just means some smelly northeastern liberal is practically sitting in your lap while you eat.

To each his own, I guess
