As I mentioned in another post, we are moving to the Hood area.

I never paid attention to such practices when I was there...curious how well one can grow a garden for fresh veggies. Are there any farmer's markets around for fresh produce?

What about restaurants? Any top ones to hit while I'm there house hunting?

Gardens - grow whatever you want. Peppers, beans, tomatoes, Corn, squash. Don't know about carrots, potatoes, blackberries, watermelons, strawberries, and canteloup. Soil is very non-sandy, so some of those sandy soil types aren't ideal (strawberries, canteloup, etc)

east of I-35, soil is thick, black
west if I-35, topsoil is thinner and rockier

Restaurants:
West County: old Chicago, wise guys, Korean kitchen, Rama Thai, ghengis, red onion Indian,

East county: jodys, cheeves, schoepfs BBQ, Clem mikeskas BBQ, Jalisco Mexican, meggs, Lois and jerry's burgers in Bartlett, mr mikes pizza and wings, taste of Thai,....

There's others. I'll try to think of some I've left off.....

Welcome to central Texas and enjoy your stay

Thanks. I'll have to provide you a case of something when I attend my first Muster over there.

We've grown good Strawberries and Blackberries in the Waco area (east of 35) as well as having a good peach crop at the old house.

See those mentioned above. Since you're not from the area, "West County" is Killeen/Harker Heights/Nolanville/Ft. Hood. "East County" is Temple/Belton/Salado and other places at least partially east of I-35

Saw a new one today - The "Tilted Kilt", Pub and Grill in Killeen. Assume it's a British pub. haven't tried it yet.

If you're just getting into town, I'd recommend Old Chicago. Go in the evening and get a deep dish pizza. The lunch pizza buffet is not as good because its a buffet. Lots of good beers.

Do you like Thai and Korean? Killeen has some good ones.
