Chalk ridge below stillhouse during the spring spawn is good for flyfishing. Probably OK other times of the year. Nolan creek IMMEDIATELY after the rainbow trout stock in February. Salado creek has black and Guadalupe. Take your rod n reel with you in your golf cart and get after it after you tee off at number 1. Nolan creek in downtown belton has lots of lawn/bank space for fly fishing.
Then there's always belton and stillhouse lakes, as well as any accessible place on the lampasas or Leon rivers for flyfishing, or catfishing with helgramites or stinkbait.
Llano, south llano, Colorado, Buchanan, Travis, inks, brazos, little river - all within an hour or two of bell county.
Note - if you're into fly fishing, i suggest the south llano near junction. 3 hours from Temple. Low crowds, river is consistent level, and lots of fish. Great kayaking so you can fish from your boat if you want. I know good outfitters out there and I'll try to post contact info when I have access to a computer other than my phone.
