1st game of the season. Listened to second half on radio. Sounded like they may be on the right track with Spradlin. Any news on the injury to starting center? Anybody that went, how did they look? Heard they got with band/student body and sang alma mater after game (was also on radio).

Well, they were up 20-2, and lost 52-33. Sounded like they were doing OK for awhile, but I guess got overrun in the 2d half.

Listened to the second half on the radio. Wonder if the mentally tough part will get here this season or next. They will be good. Loved seeing about 6 of my kids at Lamar make it on the varsity as sophomores. Even more happy that the freshman won 38-8 on Thursday. New uniforms look sharp, just wondering if the athletic dept saved so much money hiring new coaches or was saving money since Battershell was hired, to get all these new things...

What new things do they have? If it's just uniforms, gotta buy new clothes periodically. Gate/concessions ought to cover that, shouldn't it?

State of Texas, what offense and defense is Temple running this year? Is Spradlin having yall run the HS schemes at the middle school level?

Pablo - They are doing a variation of it at the MS level. I know the varsity got new helmets and they will get new ones for the sub varsity in the coming years.

I posted back in February that I wouldn't be coming back this year. Part of that was Spradlin's decision and the other part was due to the issues down in Austin. I've made my way west to Midland Lee and personally, I like the change, not just from a football standpoint, but from the student standpoint as well. It takes a special kind of teacher to teach TISD kids and I'm glad to say that I did that for 3 years, but I can also say that I'm under a lot less stress out here.

Offensively they run a variation of the spread, which what I saw in the spring, on paper is very good. Defensively, they are sticking to the 3-4. The sophomore and freshman classes are very strong, so if this year isn't so hot, the next 3 will be very good.

You think? You think stagnant enrollment numbers compared to Belton, Consol, and others are hurting Temple's "compete-ability"?
Do you see a drop to 4A soon? Temple's numbers have been VERY close to the 4A/5A cutoff the last couple of cycles.

Hard to say...I mean 4A they would be in maybe with Connally, Killeen, Midway, and Waco, or Bryan Rudder, and remember Consol will probably drop to 4A when CSHS opens up....not sure really if that is any easier than what they are in now. Not sure how talented everyone else in the district is...yes losing the kids hurt but I think that's part of Mike's plan is to do that and part of that goes with spending money on uniforms, getting the bond passed, etc. I was just saying that Temple should be making the playoffs when Zach is a senior and then when Chad President takes over for him. Chad threw quite a few touchdown passes for me last year and no, we only ran wing-t part of the time.

Connally is 3A and doubt that they'll move up anytime soon. That part of Waco is a low growth area.

Sorry, I didn't specify. I meant Pflugerville Connally. They could put Temple with Waco, Austin, or Bryan schools.

I'm thinking Midway MIGHT be 5-A in the not too distant future. Aren't their enrollment numbers already pretty close and rising?

Midway's enrollment numbers have been right at the 4/5A cutoff since I was a student.

They must have something on the UIL.
