Need to plan a nice farewell dinner for my BC and CSM immediately upon redeployment. I am very unfamiliar with the Hood area since I basically dropped my bags off and deployed.

I am being told to head to Salado or Belton and find a restarant to plan this out. About 50 people. Any suggestions so I can hand this off with my early redeployers in MAR?

I don't want to have everyone pay more than $20 a plate. Drinks not included.

Do you want atmosphere first, a private room? Good food.

What is the focus?

There are a number of good Chains in Killeen, Harker Heights.

I would check Johnny's in Salado--aggie family, good simple Texas food.

Private room. It's a goodbye dinner for my battalion commander and his command sergeant major. Basically only the key leaders will be there, and it will be immediately following a year long deployment together. Since we are not having a 'welcome home' formal, we don't want to do a chain restaurant.

Scheopf's in Belton has a big back patio you can reserve. Pretty good BBQ too.

Ifwhat you you want is close to formal, check with the Dead Fish Grill. They have a private room. I think Johnny's does also. Barbeque might be a little informal for your needs.

Yeah, Johnny's has a private room and they have hosted military functions similar to yours. I've been to one, and it went well.

Schoepfs in Belton is fine, too.

But, it is BBQ, and informal, but Johnny's I think would be just fine. They do have beer and wine, too. Then after dinner, y'all can duck out to one of the nice pubs in Salado.

And I'll second Dead Fish for view and facilities. Definitely want to check price, though. And I'm not a huge fan of their grub.

Ideally, you'd do it at Cheeves in downtown Temple. Great for your function, but you probably won't get out for $20 a head. Call em up though. See what they can do.

Oh yeah, like 3G said, the Johnny's folks are Aggies, and you know it when you walk in the place!!!

I hate to make it any more difficult, but I wonder if there is anything west like Lampasas. Eve's is very good, but no banquet room. Kempner Brick Oven (German) is also very good, and I think they actually do have a private room. May want to head over there to see if its what you want.

Even still, Salado and Belton are closer, and Temple is about the same distance from Hood as Lampasas.

Actually, it is not needed until late JUN, when we redeploy to the US. We plan that far out in that amount of detail. Still researching...will let you know how it goes?

Any word on the Range for gatherings?

I'm hosting a group of 15 for a birthday party next month. We picked the Gin at Nolan Creek in Belton. Any opinons on this?

heard the range is good. not sure you'll get out for $20 a head. call em and see what you can do.
