Anybody have a recommendation for a good golf instructor in the area that gives lessons for a reasonable price?

Thanks!

As I recall there was a good instructor out by lake Waco but I forgot his name...

The PGA pro at Wildflower in Temple is pretty good. Can't remember his name. He used to be at Stone Tree in Killeen.

Ray Lamb is a good teacher, used to be at one of the local courses, coached some area HS kids too.

Ray Lamb is the guy I was thinking of. Yes, very good reputation as an instructor.

Ray has a good reputation as an instructor---not as a person though.

Really?

Well, good enough for 2 or 3 lessons?

Heard the guy is a good teacher. Heard nothing else...

Jon Antunes is really good - coaches several teams- adjunct at Baylor. Lessons at lake waco. He worked for/with ray when ray was affiliated with lake Waco.

Ray is a good, maybe great golf coach and nobody asked about his moral standards and such....I have known of him for 25+ years and definitely would consult him for golf assistance, nothing else.

Ray is just young a heart. At times, he's just made some immature decisions in life (no jail or prison or anything like that). While I don't know of any extramarital affairs he's had, it wouldn't surprised me in the least if he did. He's the kind of guy that is extremely physically fit, dresses in expensive clothes, drives a Corvette or Hummer, has a pony tail, etc. But he knows the golf swing. He is educated and very smart. I think he has a masters degree and used to teach physics.

Most of his business ventures have not gone well. Basically, I'd never loan him any money....haha. His business decisions haven't lacked passion, but he's borrowed a lot of money and never made a profit numerous times over. He and his wife inherited a lot of wealth from her family many years ago from what I understand (mostly real estate).

He's great for golf lessons, though. I don't know where he's even set up these days to be honest with you. Lake Waco GC has a new owner (that Olympian). I have no idea if Ray is still out there. His teaching facilities are.

Ray is not at lake Waco.

I think he has a set up at his homestead property.

He still has students from all over, including Baylor, Waco, Belton, Salado...

I worked with Ray for couple of years. Good personality, bright and knows quite a bit about the swing. Easy to understand, better with beginners though and has sent a lot of kids to colleges.

Antunes at Wildflower is pretty good too.

Who would be good for a low handicap player? I've been fighting some things in my swing for a while.

When I said I worked with ray it was with my swing, not employment wise. When I started I was a 5 handicap and played a big sweeping draw, with just about every club in the bag. I could not hit a fade, punch shot, nothing but a nice big high draw. My short irons were spinning hard right to left and off the greens.

We broke my swing down and started from scratch-grip, stance everything. The one thing he told me, just as every other teacher will tell you is it will get worse before it gets better. He was right, one day during a practice session I hit 21 shanks in a row with my sand wedge. I become so frustrated I broke my wedge over my knee and left. Not even a thanks, see you around-just left.

The next day ray called me and said, got it figured out come see me. When I got there he had a piece of 1" piece of PVC and told me to take my address with my heels of my feet on the PVC pipe. I swung a couple of times to get used to my weight being towards my toes, or in golfer terms the balls of my feet. Several shots later, no shanks ever again.

Ray is very good at what he does, teaching golf at every level. I think from experience he is better suited for teaching beginners but he can and does work well with better players.

Is he eccentric yes, does he like women-oh yeah who doesn't. A couple of years working with him he did wonders for my swing and I went from 5 down to 1 to 1.5 in two years with a lot of hard work. He taught me a lot about the short game which was a strong suit of my game.

Some great stories about a lot of Tour Pros that live in Texas and a few others. Is he someone I would let babysit my kids-yes but only if it was at his shop. At the end of the day, I only cared about the improvement of my golf swing and playing golf.

Antunes at Wildflower only teaches there and has nothing to do with the club. He could have played on the tour if he could just putt. Fantastic teacher as well just don't get him to teach you about putting. Very simple but does not use modern tools, ie videotape. Majority of adults are more visual learners, but he is great as well. Antunes charges I believe 60 an hour or 150 for 3 lessons of an hour each.

Jonathan Antunes has the Academy at Lake Waco. Played at Baylor good young man. I once played against Jonathan in a two day tourney in Crocket damn good player too.

If your close to Gatesville, pick a twin doesn't matter which one both are good as well. Just don't pay attention to their country accent or their attire their both players.

Also Bill Euler is the pro at Wildflower, you would do just as well to go to the golf board and get lessons.
