I've been curious about these places... There's one in killeen too, red onion?? I will have to try it...

On ethnic foods, there is a Caribbean joint downtown killeen on 2nd and gray. Best jerk chicken and pork outside of Jamaica... Great marinades you can buy as well...

Red Onion is good, but much milder. Lunch is A buffet, but its good.

havent tried the Carribean place downtown, but the one in Heights is pretty good...

VS is always good, and the owners are as nice a folks as you'll ever meet....

Ha! Depends on what you consider "normal"

It's in the Big Lot shopping center

If you're new to Indian food, just let them know and they'll hook you up.

I suggest you go with a group of 2-3 people so y'all can each order something different and share.

Also, order it mild if you are not used to Indian Spicy food

I have only tried it once before in Laredo. A friend took several of us and everything we wer served was purple, maroon, or school bus yellow. I was seriously tramatized by it, not expecting the exotic look. I have never tried it since then.

I love spicy foods, but have stayed with Mexican and Asian of the more oriental variety.

Red Onion is amazing. I love their buffet.

I've not eaten at VS outside of takeout that my husband gets when he shops at their grocery.

Fwiw, all of my Indian kids' dads go to Red Onion several nights per week to hang out at the bar.

The Jamaican place by Uptown liquor in Heights has great goat curry.

3G,

Yeah, it's colorful, but if you know what it is, you can get past it.

The green vegetables are green.

The yellow stuff is yellow because it has turmeric. Pretty much any potato or cauliflower dish is yellow because of the turmeric.

The masalas are pink because there are yogurt based and I guess the pink is caused by chili pepper or paprika.

if you like spicy, you'll like it...

Just read that the "pink" in tika masala is from tomato paste

Soul,

I think the Jamaican place you referred to is called Royal Caribbean, and it is indeed quite good....
