I frequently see rants on I-35 traffic from Hillsboro on south. I'm headed from Allen to Lost Pines this week and wonder if 35 is frequently bad enough to recommend going another way. I am traveling mid day Tuesday and coming back mid day Friday. Thanks Army.

Normally, it's not terrible...however, that doesn't mean that you won't get stuck in a 2 hour jam after someone wrecks and closes the highway.

It's happened to me several times.

You could go 35 south to 77 to 21 to Bastrop.

Speed traps up and down that highway, though, so watch out

Tuesday mid day shouldn't be a problem, but Friday could be heavier.

"Bell County residents should be advised that because of ponding on I-35 southbound, the left mainlane of I-35 near US 190/FM 436 is closed and will probably remain closed tomorrow, depending on the rain situation. Alternate routes are advised if you are headed southbound. Traffic is a little backed up in Belton and Temple. -"

Man it was backed up for miles yesterday. It will probably be passable today, but you never know.

You may want to take that 35 to 77 to 21 route and not worry about it. Just watch your speed, especially through Lott. They'll gitcha!!

Or, you can take 35 South to north of Temple, exit Loop 363 and go east on the loop. It will curve around and turn into Hwy 95.

95 south takes you all the way to Bastrop. There's a bunch of little towns on 95 so watch the speed limit signs...

I just had a meeting with a guy that drove to Belton from liberty hill. He said I35 was flowing OK north and south bound. I'm not sure what kind of rain we will get today. I live about 2 miles from that part of 35/190 and I've had 4" since Sunday night.

As of 2 minutes ago, I-35 SB at Belton moving VERY slow. Don't know why, just that it is....

I am looking down at I-35 right now in belton from 6th Ave. Avoid it like the plague.

Yeah you won't have any problems on 95... Unless they are filming a movie in Bartlett or granger, which they do from time to time...

Man, driving to Temple now and 35 SB is backed up from Belton all the way past midway...

Driving on I-35 is like playing Russian roulette, you just aren't sure if that's the trip that's going to get you.

I had to go to Fort Worth on Sunday the 7th. I knew to not wait till late so left about noon. I was in gridlock for hours, even the service road. It was fine till just north of Troy. There was a sign that said West 12 miles, 36 minutes, but it took me an hour to get there from the sign. It was terrible till the split, but I am not comfortable going the 317 to Lake Whitney bypass since I drive alone and don't have anyone to check the gps or the map on the phone. With a co pilot I would have taken that way.

A lady at the ap workshop from North Austin left later than I did and it took her four hours to get from north Austin to Waco and seven hours total to get to South Forth Worth.

When the traffic would not move at all, I played games on my phone, not something I would ever do if we were moving. At times moving meant two miles per hour. I was just glad I did not bring anything to drink and had a full tank of gas.

Not optimistic about my Friday return trip north on 35. Might just hedge my bets and return the way I came.
