Across from the Cefco on Kegley? I see the sign, but really can't figure it out?

I think that's at the end of s31st across from the church, right before the curve. Not sure Pablo.

It's going to be a Stripes Convenience store. They've had the sign up for a few days, then it goes away.

The local CEFCO stores are going to be in trouble. With Stripes moving in, and Buc-ee's coming within a year, the convenience store choices in Temple are going to be significantly upgraded.

I had never heard of stripes. I love the people who work at that Cefco so I won't change unless the gas is cheaper.

I see that they are a big chain but since not in places I go, I did not know that and probably would never have stopped at one if I did go to Houston and Corpus and such since I don't have much courage to try new or different things.

This times a million. But I get my diesel at heb. It's always cheaper.

Lots of Stripes down around the coast.

Could be good. Hopefully it will create more competition and keep gas prices down. Cefco always seems to he highest, then Exxon then Valero seems to be cheapest next to HEB and Wally-world/SAMs club...(in realize a lot more than the cen tex market effects fuel prices, ) but this is in relation to each other based on the external variables bein equal...

A lot of stripes going up in waco as well...

And I have not been to the Texas coast in twenty years or so. Not since I left Laredo when we would do to south padre or Corpus every couple of years.

Even when we go to Florida or New Orleans, we gas up here, and usually don't stop till LA for a refill. And don't go on ten to get there, so I honestly had never heard of them. I head north to Fort Worth of over to College Station almost entirely if I get out of Temple/Waco.

I am rarely over on 31st street, since I live right by the Cefco on the corner of Kegley. It seems ridiculous to drive out of my way to save a cent or two or fuel. I gas up either on the way home from school or at the Cefco in Rogers.

I am obviously in a rut.

A little background on Stripes:

I'm from West Texas and there was a chain of convenience stores called Town and Country out of San Angelo that had a solid foothold in that part of the state. We always stopped there on trips because A) they were from San Angelo B) had a solid menu of food C) had cheaper gas and D) had clean bathrooms. Stripes bought them out around 2008 when we moved to Belton.

Everybody I talk to back home says it was a good transition and they still frequent Stripes over 7-11, Exxon, Valero, etc. due to the same reasons we like T&C over the other ones years ago.

I don't know if that contributes to the conversation or not, but it's what I know.

I believe they are building 2 in Temple (at least that I know of). The one on the corner of 2305 & Kegly and the one on the corner of South 31st & Waters Dairy.

Stripes is somewhat a new player, based out of Corpus, their market is Texas, New Mexico & Oklahoma. Have something like 580 stores, and are expanding, included in some stores are Laredo Taco, which they own.

Also in the the oil business

My fiance saw the red & white stripes and thought we were getting a TGI Friday's on Kegley. LOL. I'll have to let her know the news...

Good. Competition is good.

Now, if we could only get competition for HEB (I don't shop at Walmart, because I'm a snob) 😊
Captain Pablo

No, you don't shop at WalMart because it is awful....

As for HEB competition, well, there's an Aldi...

Just kidding on that... Been to Aldi and frankly I can't say I like it all that much. Just a bizarre experience. They sell mostly knockoffs of brand names, and they in large part are not very good...

Cheap though......

Absolutely serious.

I grew up in the panhandle. Love the burritos. They aren't for daily consumption, but every once in awhile they are fantastic!!

Heard today that the milk at Aldi is so watered down that even their "whole milk" tastes worse than name brand skim milk.

Yeah, I've bought several knock off items there that weren't worth a crap.

But, some of their stuff is OK. Seasonal produce is OK, cheeses and others..

Frozen stuff like chicken strips was crappy, IMO...

Agree with you on Aldi.

I was so disappointed.

Ok Soul. I really didn't know. I was just talking with my wife about 2 weeks ago about the fact every Alsups I had been in recently was a dump.

We were driving back from Red River. I don't think we saw a single one that had been updated.

+1 for Alsup's.

A chimichanga, chili cheese fritos, and a large coke got me through college for 5 bucks.

Made me fat but it was delicious.
