The rib has mentioned she would like to take golf lessons. We have played occasionally on vacations and she really enjoyed herself. With her b-day coming up, I figured I could finally pony down some $$ and buy her a few lessons.
Does anyone know a good, reasonably priced instructor?

And, what kind of clubs should I get her as a good starter set?

I will get laughed off this board but I don't care. Get her a set of clones... You can get a set that includes irons, wedges, hybrids, driver and fairway woods for a few hundred bucks. I know a guy that uses these and he's about an 8 handicap.

Remember, there are only 4 or 5 golf club foundries in the world. Each one makes several brands, and yes, each one makes knockoffs of those brands....

Oh, if you order them, be sure to get your wife "fitted" first -- height so they will know whether to lengthen the shaft (no, not a sexual pun).

Also, you may want to get her club head speed measured to determine shaft flex.

If you don't feel like doing that, just tell them her height and that she's a beginner

Then call them, and get them built...

Took some lessons from Ray back in the day, good teacher. I remember he taught me a method where my eyes were up before I ever hit the ball, strange feeling but worked. I also still use his strategy for chipping just off the green.

If she'd like to try it out, but you don't want to pony up for clubs yet, I have a set of ladies irons and drivers from golf smith. I just got a set of calloways that I'm trying. Not sure if is want to sell mine until I'm sure I like the longer ones, but shed be welcome to use them.

Washburn, he did the same for me as well. He's a great teacher for the beginner and can really break it down in simple terms.
