From Temple, I suggest:

36/190 through Cameron

Then Left on 2095 (just after you cross over Little River)

Take 2095 to Hwy 79 in Gause

(Note - 2095 "T's" about halfway between Cameron and Gause. Go LEFT at that "T" to remain on 2095)

Left on 79 to Hearne

Right on 6 to B-CS

Actually that route through Cameron and Gause is about the same distance as going 53/485

The only downside is you pass through a couple of small towns (Cameron & Rogers) and have to watch your speed a little closer...

I've driven that route many times and it doesn't add much travel time.....

I haven't been that way in over 20 years. Just a habit to go 485 and I will miss stopping at greens. But I have heard it's just as easy.

Yeah, I haven't been on that road in awhile either... Couple of years, I guess...

You could still go to Greens and cut over to 36 via 437

Assuming 437 is OK...

Probably would add about 15 minutes to your normal trip

wow. i went on 485 on Monday through CS to Katy and came back on 36 through Cameron. glad to have just missed it.

What sucks too, is that 36 is under some construction right now and they have a good stretch of one lane traffic going one direction at a time. Between Cameron and Rogers I believe.

I'm headed to BCS tomorrow. What's the fastest route from Temple now?

Having grown up in Cameron, that's how I went to College Station...through Gause.

FYI, RC's ranch is out in that area. Sugarloaf Mountain (it's a hill, but hey....) is very pretty out there. Really nice area, from my native's perspective.

Yeah, it is a pretty drive. And about once every 15-20 years or so, the late summer/early fall conditions line up to produce spectacular fall color.

Drove through there one year and it was almost like New England.

As for sugarloaf, yes, quite a peculiar formation for that part of the country. I'm sure you know this but there is a new bridge over little river at sugarloaf on that dirt road that connects 485 and 2905. We drive that road occasionally just for kicks...

One more thing -- Jack Pardee's ranch is also near Gause..
