Ok they delivered the green monster bin.

I have lost a trash day, now they only pick up real trash once a week. Heck I get busy during the school year and don't even realize it is trash day till the bin is full. Now they only pick up trash once a week. If I miss it, I am so screwed. The recycle day for me is a joke.

First of all, I am not going to recycle many things. Environmentalist can just hate me. I don't wash dishes. If it can't go in the dishwasher it is just not used. Period. The note said I am supposed to wash out my cans and such. Just not going to happen. So they will keep going in the regular trash and will almost anything. It wont take foil pie plates and baking dishes, something I actually have several of after Thanksgiving.

I will have a large plastic empty cat litter container every couple of weeks and a few toilet paper insides. I don't take newspapers or magazines and I never throw away books. It would take me a month to fill the recycle bin, but for THIS I lose a trash pick up a week, and while I usually only put the trash out once a week, I am much more apt to notice it is Friday than Tuesday. I lost the one trash day that matters.

I live alone, so there is no one else and they want it out before seven. That will really suck on vacation days and holidays when I would have to set an alarm and get dressed just to get the stupid green recycle bin out.

Just a vent, but I really hate this. And if I had chosen just one trash day, then make it on Friday not stupid Tuesday. For me, I usually just think schoolday or weekend, not really day of the week. Sigh. Right now I have four trash bags in the garage that won't fit in my bin, so I will have a good start on it being full for next week before they even do pick up. And a few of those things are going to be really smelly waiting a full week more for pickup.

How a family will manage with just one bin and just one pick up a week I have no idea. I guess eat out all the time and therefore never have trash?

Good lord. How old are you? I'm assuming you just want sympathy (I have none) and not suggestions, but in case I'm wrong---

-set a reminder and put it out the night before. unless you are in a neighborhood with extremely strict ordinances you will be fine.
-get a smaller trash can in your kitchen. I guarantee you will automatically reduce your amount of waste just by virtue of the smaller trash can.
-hire a private contractor to come and pick up your waste twice, five times a week if you like. I'm sure there are some entreprenurial people who would love to earn money from your laziness.
-live in haiti for a few months so you can see how great weekly trash pickup is.

This deserves like 15 laugh/cry faces, which I don't pay for.

I was astounded by the liberal Obama can (the blue recycle one) when we moved to the Austin area. Now though, we produce more crap that goes into the recycle bin than the trash bin. It's not that big of a deal. Your generation is the reason we can't have nice outdoor things without fines for littering, do you part to help clan up.

You're the reason that indian was crying.

I am old.

Just taking the bin to the curb and bringing them back to the house was impossible for me for months after I broke my hip. I can now do it, but it is not easy.

I said you would think I am a bad person.

I am now paying just as much for trash pick up and getting half the service, they are only going to pick up trash ONCE a week.

So it is cheating me out of a pick up and getting nothing in return.

I was not asked, this was forced on me with no input. I have nothing against voluntary recycling and people who want to take their stuff to recycle centers. I don't like being forced to pay the same price for half the trash pick up service.

I must be missing something, but when did they ever pick up twice a week?

i've been a part of the pilot area in Temple for a year. It's a pain. They only get our trash on Fridays and as much as we try to put stuff in recycling, it's always full.

What kills me is that they will sometimes see something that's not recyclable (like a plastic bag, how is that not recyclable??) and leave the whole thing with a dirty note.

I'm all for being green and doing best efforts on that, but forcing it by taking my trash half as often and then telling me they're going to be selective of what they recycle drives me a little nuts.

I know 3GA lives in the Temple area, but in Woodway, they pick up twice a week.

When I lived in the Lubbock area, there were alleys with dumpsters behind houses. The dumpsters were emptied twice a week.

In Temple, we get trash pick up twice per week.

Interesting.....I live near 3GA, and we don't have that program. Wish we did. I had it in Oregon and loved it.

Once per week really is usually ok, especially if you do the recycling thing correctly.

I'm shocked we still receive it twice per week. Few places do.

Waco/Hewitt used to get 2x weekly trash pick up as well...we are now on the 1x trash and 1x recycle...it can be worse than what you have as we started the pilot with recycle every other week and no one on our street knew if it was recycle or not!

Yep. One week it's brush, then the following it's recycle.

Here in Woodway, it's trash twice a week, recycling and brush once a week.

Here in Sydney, Australia, it's a rotating schedule on Fridays.

Household garbage - a small trash can (rubbish bin) that is collected every week.

Vegetation recycling - 2 large bins, collected every two weeks along with:
Container recycling (one small bin)

Paper recycling - one small bin collected every two weeks opposite the Vegetation and Container recycling.

For us, it is something that we have to plan around. And yes, the trash cans have to be out by the curb by 7 am. So, 99% of our neighbors put them out Thursday evening.

Thursday evening is also the only night of the week that shops are open past 5:00 pm. So, it becomes easy to remember that "Late Shopping Night" is the night the bins need to go out. Plus, when you get home and see all your neighbors bins out, it's easier to remember.

Now, I live in a residential neighborhood so it's probably 80 feet from my house to the kerb [sic]. I don't know about 3GA but where my parents live outside Waco, it's probably 300 feet to the side of the road. I can see how that is definitely a big chore for an older person or a person who has mobility challenges anyway.

You will adjust to the weekly and bi-weekly schedule pretty quickly because... The first time you forget to put your trash out, you'll wind up having to deal with 2 weeks worth of trash the next week. If your bin was already full the first week, it might take you 2 more weeks to get all the trash picked up because 2 weeks worth of trash won't fit in the can.

The other thing that can happen is that if you jam too much stuff into your trash can, some of it can get stuck. Pizza boxes, boxes from Christmas, etc. Then you've got the same problem where it takes 2 weeks to get caught back up. It doesn't take too many times to learn this the hard way.

Now on the bottles and cans recycling. Yeah they say to rinse the stuff out. And I didn't want to do it either. But... here's what happens if you don't. Eventually, all that extra crap - milk, Coke, bbq sauce, orange juice, sour cream, etc., leaks out into the trash can and it begins to smell horrendously. And not to mention attract insects, etc.

In summary, yeah, it sucks. But, you can adapt and deal with it. Otherwise, I guess you could always revert to the 1970s and have a burn barrel.

So in Woodway they actually get something for their taxes. Here in Waco, we get squat.
