just thought of some other places as well, other than where I work

1. Fuzzy friends rescue. you can help them feed, walk, shelter, bathe all the pets.
2. Nursing Homes, I know are church has a homebound ministry, but I bet there are some secular groups that go into nursing homes to read and friend the people there.
3. Habitat for Humanity.
4. Shelters -- I am pretty sure most towns in central Texas (temple/belton, killeen, Waco) have shelter/soup kitchens set up
5. Salvation Army

I've found the Habitat for Humanity Restore in downtown Waco to be worthwhile..and they are always looking for help. It's like a Goodwill store for home improvement products.

Army Corps of Engineers is always looking for Volunteers. If you are interested in working outside ( Eagle Nest Project, Trail maintenance, Campground maintenance, Water safety) give the LAke Waco office a call 756-5359.
