We have a property in the Riesel area. It is on 164 East of Highway 6, not quite to Battle Rd. It is on the North side of 164. We currently have Hughes Net Gen 4, but even after this upgrade, the internet availability and quality are not suitable even with the "Pro" package. The other options that I have found is Wild Blue, one sort of direct "beam" connection to a local provider, 4G hot spot or pay a ton to get a line run. Any recos, or anything I may have missed that is better than my current set up?

Yes, not always and not always great, but yes

I guess about the best you can do is compare price, data plans, and reliability between satellite and 4G services.

None are cheap, and if you are a heavy graphics, music, or streaming content user, God be with you...

That's what my parents have. According to your description of the area, you're either neighbors with them or live within a few thousand feet.

Those Verizon 4Gs work pretty good. We used to have one but turned it back because we just didn't need it. We just use our phones if we need portable wifi.

The only thing I hate about 4G is the limited data, but what are ya gonna do? 20 gigs sounds like alot until you try to watch an Aggie baseball game or a movie over netflix. Easily can use up 2-4 gigs on one event..

Central link is what everyone has around there.

Assuming you are up on a hill you should have a clear line of site to either the marlin or axtell tower from there.

Should not be a problem if you are in between battle lake road and 164. Unless you are at the 6/164 Y in the trees.

Clear/Sprint throttles your connection after so much use down to .5mbsec. Is ADSL not available or are you too far from a trunk. Any satellite is and will be crappy, they have to throttle too.Just dont know what options you have or how far away everything is. Do you even have a wired connection anywhere close.

It cost me $1700 to get wired in from about 450 feet from the road with Time Warner. But it was worth every penny. Had to pay for a new amplifier and wire run up to the house with labor. Poles were already there for the electric.

What are the download speeds you are getting on hughes net?

jread, I dont remember, but it is not good and the download cap is killing me. I had previously talked to central link and they werent in the area yet. The house is up on a hill and has great line of site in any direction. I had been talking to Airnet to see if they had any offerings but did not have a point within 7 miles. I will be calling central link once they open this morning.

JD05AG, I saw you replied on the OB as well. I do not think you know me, I am not up at that house often. There is only one neighbor within a half mile or so, and its just one old lady.

The house has been there since about 05 ish. The direct property adjoining where the house is butts up against the 5th Hole of the golf course.

Ok, I had figured you meant Battle Lake Road instead of battle but you throw me when when you said Riesel. Technically that is considered Mart. JD05AG took you at Battle Rd.

I stand by my answer on Central link. You should have no problem at that house. The monthly isn't bad and there is no cap. The download speed it is as good or better than anything you will get on a hotspot.
It does get a little slow on friday and saturday nights due to high volume.

My mom lives just around the corner from jread07 and JD05AG and uses Central Texas Web Access. Don't know all of the details but the signal comes in via a receiver on our old antenna tower. When we are up there, the speed seems reasonable for rural internet.

The old lady that is your closest neighbor is my Great Aunt. I used to have a never ending supply of golfballs out of their pasture when I was young.
