New walking bridge at the north end coming along

Low bridge at confederate park permanently closed?

What exactly is the plan for Nolan Creek in Belton, and the parks around it? what is the time frame?

Not sure what the plan is but I'm not happy about the low water crossing closure. I'd still cross it every day
leaving bcyc and I have a lot of memories from when I was little.

Sorry if pic is too big.

I've found some references to big plans to transform nolan creek into some grand summer recreational destination

But I have found very little detail...

Yes. I think the city hired a company to look into the feasibility of doing some type of city tube chute like in New braunfels. Also kayacking from further up. Not sure about the results. They probably will ban alcohol if it ever becomes real.

Well if they ban alcohol, you won't catch me down there

It would take about a quart of bourbon for me to so much as stick a toe in that water!!!

was at Market Days with my 98# Boxer Rufus yesterday. Upon arrival, some guy asked if I was with Austin Boxer Rescue. The Cedar Park guy with wife and 3 kids,...I had no idea ABR had advertised they would be there.

They weren't. Today, I noticed the website was wrong.

Last week, another Austin guy asked where The Gin was located.

Carpetbaggers ?

Not to derail the thread but we've got two boxers from ABR. Thumper (Brindle) and Roxie

I would think they are going to have to dam up Nolan creek to make it suitable for kayaking and tubing....

Like a pretty significant (low water) dam since there's decent elevation change as the creek runs though belton

Either that or dredge out navigable chutes

Wish that info was out there...

Sorry, I don't have a sub for tdt, but it says the creek is safe for swimming south of K/HH.

Yeah I saw those but not a lot of specifics in that city website

And I don't have a telegram subscription either...

Ah well

From what I have heard from city officials, they will dam the creek to create about a mile and a half float. Maybe a little longer. The main chute area will be right down from the Gin complex downtown. I heard it is a 9 month plan. Honestly, never thought it would happen but glad to see it. If "old belton" would relax, I think it will give Belton a new feel and atmosphere that I personally am really excited about.

Well that's that, I guess....

I can't believe the water quality in that thing is good enough for that type of activity...

I'd be afraid of sticking a foot in there and coming out with a nub

If I had faith that the city council would get it right the first time, I'd relax. I have a feeling corners will be cut and it will turn out as an overpriced lazy river I can't drink on because it flows past too many churches and a sliver of it can be seen from the bisd admin building.

I too am skeptical of the project, but hope they get it right somehow

Nothing to do with not being "relaxed "

mazzag,
I'd be more worried about the 100's
of homes, drainage ditches, chemicals, septic tanks, and fertilized lawns along South Nolan Creek from the heart of Killeen on down than churches and schools!

That's why they shouldn't ban alcohol. Kills germs and numbs worries.

No dam

Will dredge and move rocks around to create outcrops, deep spots, fast spots, and make the creek more navigable for tubers and kayakers

Both low crossings to be removed

For recreation purposes, the creek will be enhanced, not transformed

Should be nice when it's done

So no tube chute?
Captain Pablo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Not sure.

There will be something along those lines, a bottle neck of some sort I think, but probably by moving boulders around to create a more natural looking chute...

There may be several of those "bottlenecks" or whatever. I don't know. It's basically one way to raise the creek level in spots without damming it up..

Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what it will look like, but I think there will be something behind the Gin or Appraisal building, and perhaps others upstream

I did hear that the company doing the work has a lot of experience doing these projects, and has done some good work...

One thing I did hear is this is NOT going to be a transformative project. Like I said, more of an enhancement that will make the creek more suited for recreation, and navigation on a small scale

Do not expect a full blown Gruene, Tx type waterway, or anything even close to it...

It will be a city park improvement, but should be pretty nice...

There will be a car bridge connecting 9th to the Loop, and the walking track improvement and extension is underway and coming along nicely, including an old iron bridge over Nolan Creek at lions park

There will be a "put in" somewhere around where 9th goes over Nolan Creek, and the "float" or whatever will be about a mile, maybe a little more..

I'm hoping they don't change it too much. I've taken a fly rod out a time or two to fish for small bass and perch behind the Gin.

So I'm eating at corona's and watching the creek slowly rise with the rain. I still don't see how this is going to work without a damn of some sort. I'm thinking it's going to be lame.

Does umhb contribute enough to justify this or is it alumni on the city council that want to accommodate them? The school is certainly growing because of the new president. I hope he's there for a long time.

One of you idgits should go tube Nolan creek today and let me know how it goes. And what kind of rash you get afterwards
