6A & 5A start district play this week

Anybody care to make an early prediction in these district races?

Temple should be able to sleep walk through 17-5A (and probably would have finished 1st or 2d in 12-6A had they stayed. But alas, they didn't). Hard to pick a second place team in that weak district. I suppose Elgin and Manor will vie for that honor.

In 12-6A, I think Midway is the clear favorite.


Who knows who will take the 2d, 3d,
and 4th playoff spot. Maybe Cove if they can get healthy. Maybe Heights, who got destroyed by Temple, but beat a good Stony Point Team that rolled Belton. Maybe Belton who looked better against Waco than Heights did

Should be an interesting and exciting season

Marlin vs. Garrison at Palestine (sat). Gave #2 Franklin all they wanted on Friday. We'll put up our strength of schedule up against anyone else in the district.

West game is in West vs. Hillsboro. Should (hopefully) be an easy game for West

I like all those picks except one:

Refugio is 3-0 and has out scored their opponents 150-13

Cameron has a LOOONG road trip

I think Yoe gets beat in South Texas

Way back in the day when my poor little HS had to play Refugio in district, they were tough. Our only claim to fame my senior year was that we were the only team to score on their defense during district play. They went to the semi finals that year I believe.

On a normal year, I would take Cameron in a slugfest but pulling away late to win by 10, but that is a long as hell road trip to a very tough place to win even on your best day.

Refugio wins this one by 10+.

I missed on that one. I figured that Shoemaker would be a team that Shipley should be able to beat no matter if Shoemaker had superior talent.

8-1 or 8-4 makes no difference. South Texas teams in general cannot hold a Central Texas team's jock strap. Hell even Refugio couldn't beat a West Texas team last year in Arlington when they had an all world QB.

really pisses me off lol, last year Rogers lost by 1 from a GD XP. final was 73-72 something like that. We always manage to meet up with Refugio in the playoffs and its started to become a rivalry. Hate those guys and the only reason im taking Refugio in this game is that coach just keeps going, doesnt pull starters, runs up the score in an unsportsman like fashion. I hope the Yoe can do it, but I just dont see it happening.

Thats one I was surprised about. Brother told me that coach is doing Power I instead of spread because of the people they have and the talents they have in the running game.

Is it working?

I didnt go to the game but from the troy game and the game last week, this team is better at running. the playcalling is about 95% run 5% pass. with those passes being bad.

Not saying good, just saying they are better at running.

By "working" I mean are they winning games with it?

I have no doubt they run better than they pass

Just wondering if that system is winning ballgames

Oh, ha yes they are. long drives, wearing down the defense then get some break away runs late in drives

Interesting game indeed as both teams appear to have improved over their non district schedule. If it were in Marlin I would take the dogs, but in Rogers I probably have to favor the Eagles.

It will be a good district to watch. Dublin, B-E, Clifton, and Jarrell could win on any given night.

Unless things have changed, B-E could not win on any given night. Nothing against then, it's just that they have traditionally not been successful in HS football.
