Seriously, it was not a matter if "if" but "when"

Well "when" is now

You can't stop something like that

How bad is this really? Not wanting to downplay, but does this kill the lakes or it is just something that will cause trouble, but lake people can life with?

No won't kill the lake, but will be a major nuisance

the lake will eventually be infested, and the main problems will be:

- Boats left in the water. The mussels, in large numbers, will attach to the hull and prop. Similar to barnacles, but possibly worse
- Swimmers/waders - The mussels are sharp and can cut your feet
- Outflow pipes - Probably the biggest hazard, they will infest and clog up pipelines that bring water to cities

The good news is water clarity will improve, so there is that.... But that may be a symptom of conditions that could be harmful to some species

So, if you're a lake goer, you're just gonna have to learn to live with 'em

And a pipe

A BIG problem is our CenTex lakes are a perfect breeding ground for these little b******s

They need calcium rich water to survive and breed

Well, lakes built on beds of solid limestone will pretty much do the trick

Has someone developed a coating that is resistant so they can't attach?

Not that I know of

They've been in North America for about 25 years. They probably entered the continent in Canada, and have migrated south (inadvertently transported, actually) ever since, finally reaching Texas

I figure if they had a coating solution, they'da done used it by now...

Here's one scientist that's thinking along the lines of a blocking solution

Not much hope for eradication though.

Limited to Ridgewood Marina. They came off one boat that was previously in Lake Belton and was not cleaned drained and dried.

Bohunk shared a Waco Tribune article on a possible solution in Old Rivalries.
