It wouldn't surprise me. That mall is such a joke. I haven't eaten there in 10+ years. Parking is terrible and I just don't think about eating there. About once a year I'll eat at cotton patch and casa ole.

Know one of the owners from the CenTex Fuddrucker's locations. He's been out of the business for several years and it's done nothing but go downhill in that time period. Not surprising at all.

I heard last night they might be building a new one across from s&w. Kinda by the Hilton garden inn.

Temple Mall was great in the 70's - 80's

It had its purpose -- small to medium sized indoor, air conditioned retail/social center in a small town of 40,000

Went all the time back in the day

It's simply ran its course. The town has outgrown it and the business model for retail has shifted to online sales, discount stores, and those mega-strip centers

Most of all, young people simply don't get out like they used to

Why would they? Facebook, twitter, and Instagram do all the social heavy lifting for them

And I heard Victoria's Secret was closing too. And yes Pablo our retail habits have changed but people still go to malls when there's something to go for. The anchor stores in temple cater to people in their 70's & 80's as far as selection goes and the smaller stores, well let's just say there's no way I'm letting my daughter walk out of the house in any of those outfits. But it was a good mall way back.

I have heard the lease prices are ridiculous but the kiella retail spaces on 2305 seem high too. At least $2 sq ft I think. My hair salon owner pays $4000+/month. Ouch.

Before the Richland mall was built in Waco, we'd drive from Waco to Temple for the mall. That's where I had my first Chick Fil A experience. I loved going to the mall for that reason.

People do still go to malls, but not like they used to

Malls are failing all over, and there has been very few if any built in years

The Galleria and other upscale malls are doing OK, but other, lower scale malls, not so much

Here's some articles about the overall decline of indoor malls, especially the non-upscale ones

They unanimously paint a bleak picture for the American indoor mall

I liked the usa today article best but I don't think that's the temple mall's problem. It hasn't lost it's anchor stores yet and this area has high end buyers to cater to, but they haven't and now it's probably too late to get them back. We don't have the out door urban center like Georgetown and Harker Heights have in this area. So there's not competition but shoppers are lost to Waco and Austin because of the availability of high end and trendy selections.
It's just sad to me. It works in a pinch but I usually end up going to Austin for better options. I see it becoming part of the s&w system soon. Or TC.

Well Obama does want to give free tuition to community college students. We'd have to put them somewhere.

I saw a report on one of the Killeen newstation sites when I googled about it. The owner said that after twenty years their lease was up and that they couldn't come to terms on it. Something like after that amount of times things get worn down. Anyway, he said they were actively looking for another site.

Hope so. Last thing we need is another dining option gone.

I tell my wife and kids all the time how I always really really wanted to eat at What-A-Burger because I wanted to get to use those saddle seats!

You guys are bringing back some memories. Good friend of mine always reminisces about falling into one of the fountains and his dad whipping his arse all the way out of the mall.

EMY92 - when did Richland Mall open?
I'm guessing it must have been around 1980?

Sometime around then. It was a big spectacle when it opened.

I do remember seeing "The Sting" at the drive in movie at that site before the mall was built.

Memory must be failing me.......where was there ever a Giovanni's in the mall? And the place with the saddle seats......it was something different before Whataburger went in there......anybody remember? Right when the mall opened.....

And Yesterday's.......my God I spent so much money in that place during the summer it was ridiculous.

Cool run down Memory Lane though
