The Belton Journal indicates they're going to be putting one in at Commerce and Sparta. Can someone put up a live feed so those of us who no longer live in Belton can laugh at people trying to figure it out?

Yeah I am not sure why these are gaining favor again. We took a trip through Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana this summer and saw several of these being put in Colorado and I think a few in Wyoming too. I remember when I lived in Tyler for a couple years they had three of them in town and were taking them all out because of all the trouble they had there over the years.

They work in Europe, but the driving culture here doesn't translate to them well.

there used to be a few in Texas but almost all of them were eliminated

The one in Waco was one of the last to remain

I can't for the life of me understand why they would put one at that intersection in Belton

The waco one is terrible. It is more like a demolition derby arena than a roundabout.

The one in Belton should be just one lane all around. Simple enough for even the slowest of us Beltonians to master.

The reason Belton is adding one is to avoid the cost and up keep of putting In a stop light. The city of Belton doesn't own or maintain any stop lights. The lights in Belton are owned and operated by the State. FYI

Im not stating as 100% fact but I think Belton runs its own lights. I only say this because I have a friend who works for TXDoT who says that a town over 20K is in charge of their own lights but Belton asked for control before they were at 20K this last census. I could have misheard or be misremembering.

Why can't they just make it a 4 way stop? Too many students, school buses and HOP buses travel on that road. Oxford has several traffic circles that seem to work good but they are at the intersections to get on the highway. Not in town.

They are now in all new subdivisions in China Spring. I have to use several everyday going to work. Never had a problem.

A while back, TXDoT was trying to push a number of maintenance items off onto municipalities across the state to free up budget space. I am sure ownership and maintenance of stoplights on TXDoT roads was one of them. However, municipalities caught onto that rather quickly and almost unilaterally balked.

I would guess that your friend told you about the transition when TXDoT anticipated cities hopping on board, but to my knowledge, Belton and most all other cities in Texas said no thank you when TXDoT floated the proposal. I do not believe the City owns any of the stop lights.
