It seems my GPS likes switching it up on me. I'll be driving back to Temple tomorrow, along with all the Houston Aggies and tsips, so I'm expecting traffic to be horrible and lots of cops on the roads. I was wondering if any of you have a preferred route. Preferrably with as few speed limit changes as possible. I also live in the area of the Temple Mall/Academy.

Right now my GPS likes taking me one of 3 ways:
1) 485 through Hearne, BCS, then down 6 to 290
2) 190 through Cameron, then down 36 through Caldwell, down into Brenham and then onto 290
3) 190 through Cameron, then onto 79 to Hearne, and then down through BCS to 290

Once it even sent me 190 down 77 to Giddings before getting onto 290.

290 to 6 to 485 to 53 to loop 363 to home

The 290 to Brenham to Somerville to Caldwell to Cameron to Temple route may look shorter on the map but it is slower. Too many towns to go through

The only town you go through (with a stop Light) on my preferred route is Hearne

Don't speed driving into or thru hearne. It will be the end of spring break and I'm sure the local police will be out.

i've done this drive probably 10 times since January.

i would say it's entirely based on where you're headed. I usually base which way i want to take based on where i am coming in, going, and what traffic will look like when i get there.

485 to 6 to 290 is my favorite way and as long as 290 doesn't turn into a CF, it's pretty good.
If traffic looks bad that way (290) i do 485 to 6 and turn off on 105 in Navasota and come in on 45.
36 to 10 and Katy is good if you're needing Katy, Spring Branch, or Fort Bend area. Lot of stops along the way.
If it's towards Galveston, god help you. Get to 610, get around to 45 S and hope you're not fighting everybody coming home from Houston.

i have family in Crosby and it's great once you're there. no business, no traffic, but it's brutal to get to.

depends. my work car has a tx toll tag and i will in that. i wish the beltway and grand parkway would work like the toll in Austin, just send me a bill afterwards. HCT sucks. you get one freebie and after that it's $60 if you don't have a tag or cash on hand and half the time they don't have people working the booths.

if it's my truck (no TX Toll tag ) i will take 290 to 10 to 610 to 90.

We laugh in Cameron about the preferred route to Houston depending upon which side of Cameron you're going to be starting from.

Use to make the drive through hearne almost every weekend, from ft hood to midtown Houston where my ex use to live. Fastest way IMO. Never been pulled over. I have been pulled over taking the Cameron and Brendam routes however

folks live in Killeen and i live in Houston...may have to try this sometime. i always just go through Brenham/Rogers and all that. Rogers is Speedtrap Capital of Texas, btw...they have a sign.

53 to 485 to 6 to 290 to Houston unless your really needing Tomball or spring or the woodlands or Conroe or......

36 is almost as bad as 21
