So my daughter was driving home for spring break last weekend on Highway 6. Got pulled over for going 95 in a 75 south of Marlin, near Bremond. Besides telling her that she needs to slow down, can anyone give me a recommendation for a lawyer to help us lessen the damage? TIA

how old is she? Is she eligible for Defensive Driving? My understanding is taking that and no ticket for six months it doesn't affect your/her insurance. She still will have a fine and SHE needs a crappy, disgusting job to earn every penny of it!

If you posted this on the General Forum I would have all kinds of comments but since you posted here, I will just shake my head. Hwy 6, spring break, the speed limit has been raised in that area to 75 and she still can't obey it? Take her car away!

Not even sure if you can take defensive driving if 20 mph over the legal limit.

Shoot, I'd find an attorney...just "paying the ticket" is always the wrong move IMO.

When I got popped for 20 over years ago (mine was 75 in a 55 in one of those insane drop the speed limit 2 miles out of town on a highway to write tickets areas, church ladies) you could not.

What I did instead was deferred adjudication, which basically was pay a fine and don't get another ticket within a certain time frame.

Worth asking about when you appear, anyway.

OP was his first post and hasn't responded since this back and forth. The only assumption we can make(unless op says something differently), is it was a normal situation. His daughter was speeding. I'd save the $200 attorney fee and apply that to the ticket or ask the judge for DJ.

Count me also as a big fan of not damning someone for speeding....or being accused of speeding. I've seen enough to know that, especially on Highway 6, it isn't always what it seems. Guy only asked for attorney recs.

Not bagging on anyone here too much, but I knew what this would devolve into based on his original post and I don't think it's fair.

The OP isn't saying she didn't speed, he is asking for help reducing the damage. Piag gave his opinion on how to do that. Which is the same advice I would give. You just like bashing people for no reason.. Maybe read a little closer and stop assuming you know the whole situation.. Your constant bashing gets old.. The stop and corresponding charge is an allegation, not a conviction

So no, you have no idea what she did or didn't do, or what youre talking about

And who cares if she's guilty? She has a right to counsel. If you don't like that, or you think its out of line for a person to assert their rights to have representation, then move to a different country. Iran or Saudi Arabia may suit your needs.

20 miles over is going to be hard to get around lawyer or no lawyer. Personally, having experienced this with my son, 95 in a 65 in the middle of no where in eastern Colorado, I'd kill the kid.

Speeding tickets

I've been working too much lately to do justice to the CenTex board but I'm seeing my parents this weekend which always means a hard sell on the value of Waco so I thought I'd stumble over here for a catch up. This time it paid off. In Spades.

95 mph - I say throw the book at her but...

Years ago when I lived in Austin, I took defensive driving with a girl who got clocked at 96/55 on the way from WY to TX for a funeral. Also in my DD class was a 20 y/o kid who was an ambulance driver and managed to get his ticket for 105/55 on MoPac talked down so he didn't lose his license and his job.

So... how much justice can you afford?

BTW - my record was 93/65 let off because my daughter was having a febrile seizure in the back seat.

Got a ticket in Lorena yesterday... 65 in a 50. Wasnt payng attention, just cruising down the road listening to radio thinking about the weekend.

i earned it, ill pay it and do DD. not worth fighting when you are guilty as sin. First ticket in over 4 years though.

Got one several years ago in Bruceville-Eddy for a 62 in a 55. Only problem (that I realized much later, with the help my of dad's radar gun) was that the odometer on the car was off by about 7 mph.

I should have contested it because I knew I wasn't going that fast, but I was driving my wife's (gf at the time) BMW and it felt so much faster than my F150, so I figured he was probably right.

Wrong.

Youngest son got an 85 in a 75 east of Post coming home on a road trip to TT town yesterday (Sunday)

Dad: "why the hell were going so fast?"

Son: " It was out in the middle of no-where and I had the cruise control on"

Dad: "Dam'it boy I always told you 3 to 4 over, NOT 10".

Its on him.
