Haven't had the chance to drive around and check them out. I have been to the one near the dam.

Saw some camping areas on the net, anyone have any recs ?

With or without water/electricity, looking to pitch a tent, take the dog. Aggie from CS coming up as well.

From what I've heard Pier 36 at cedar ridge park isn't very crowded and it's way out of the way.

Cedar ridge is nice. The one over long bridge on the right is good too.

Anyway, Cedar Ridge is probably the best place for camping out there

Thanks everyone,

Due to a short notice and Easter weekend, the only place with availability was Winkler Park, small 14 site place on far north end. Only 6 sites were occupied. Checked out the other parks, Cedar Ridge is very nice.

No electricity, little water out there in the Leon River. But, enjoyable to get away. Rufus and AggieK liked it as well.

Even got fly my kites

Lots of other USACE lakes/parks near by.

Waco - Reynolds Creek, Airport, Speegleville and Midway

Navarro Mills - Liberty Hill, Oak and Wolf Creek.

Steelhouse Hollow , Granger, Georgetown and Whitney too.

From Spring Break to 4th of July most parks are full on weekends. Reservations in advance are a must.

Hey thanks

Mostly looking for this area and south to southeast. Georgetown, Granger and Stillhouse will take a look. I did reserve thru recreation.gov for Winkler, started out closer to home which was full, ended up with Winkler.

Know about Waco, grew up there, been there done that,... we did take a quick drive through Mother Neff State Park, and that is now marked for future. Went out there last year to the pavilion for family reunion, so hung around the main entrance area. This time, the state employee guy hopped in his vehicle, waved for us to follow him to the office area. We were impressed with all they have to offer, it was right at closing time for the office folks on a Saturday afternoon.

Very good time of year to get out and about, the bluebonnets and a mass a yellow flowers mixed in were really cool.

I will say, ran into Belton on that early Saturday afternoon,...stopped by Miller's BBQ for an excellent sliced beef sandwich and a Shiner, which hit the spot after a windy, cool Friday night spent in a tent.

Waco is not the same Waco that you grew up on. Combat Zone in Airport is gone. Lake raised 7 feet in 2003. All new campground in Airport and a new Speegleville Park.

I'd go with Cedar Ridge first then White Flint second. Temple Lake Park is also an option.

Thanks just the same, don't care much to go to Waco. The lake there will never compare to the 14 years I lived at Lake Travis (when it had water).

Given water levels at Travis, there are several out in the western portions of the state.
