I think the 6A district will go pretty much like last year -- Midway, Cove, Shoemaker, Belton. Harker Heights may beat Belton out for that 4th spot

I admit, I am just pulling that prediction out of my you-know-what. I have done zero research. Didn't even read Texas Football this year

I think academy might win district this year. I thought I heard they were a young team. Rogers lost a lot of talent they had. Don't see them being at the bottom, but don't see them at the top. 2-4 range.

West went 7-3 last year and didn't make the playoffs...which is hard to do these days.

They return 6 starters each way. Their starting QB, good RBs, and good WRs. They have lost some on the OL and in the defensive backfield.

They have a shot to make the playoffs this year.

Now I definitely say Cameron Yoemen, instead of Yo-Yo men

UMHB President Baucom lives in Salado....they may not have had to pay rent....who knows.

Maybe just to put the kids in a nice stadium, show them the kind of venues they would play in week in and week out if they make the playoffs?

He's the previous President of UMHB. O'Rear is the current president and does live on campus.

Fun story about that setup. I went to Angelo State and worked in the tech department. I got a promotion to be the only student worker allowed to go to the president's office and house to work on their computer stuff. When I was working at his house his wife would have the house staff bring me lemonade and cookies. But I did have to wear collared shirts tucked into jeans anytime I was around them.

The 2d TD was late with the 2d team in

Hard to tell how good Belton is this year. Really good QB and RB play. Defense looked OK. University is a REALLY bad team though. They could very well go 0-10

Refs were flag happy, against one team anyway, including a VERY late holding call by the back judge. Flag was for a hold at the line and was thrown after Peoples had already run about 20 yards and had broken loose.

Anyway, Belton will find out what it has next week when they play Hendrickson.

University will win a few this year. Belton capitalized on some early University mistakes. I think 21 of Belton's 28 first half points came off of turnovers. Eliminate those and the game is a little different. Belton still wins, but the margin of victory would have been smaller.

If you're gonna cite mistakes as the reason the game was so lopsided, don't forget the mistakes that made it closer than it should have been. Penalties and oh yeah the University pick 6 that accounted for their only score outside a garbage time TD with 30 seconds left

Had dinner with parents last night, dad was saying how rogers got DESTROYED.

He made a point which I completly agree on, that last year they gave it to Brody Malovets (sp.?) And that was basically their only play. The occasional overthrown/underthrown pass. And maybe a good ol Spav-like WR screen.

He did say though that Franklin was like a top 5-10 team in the state though. And if I remember right, rogers got shut out my Franklin last year too.

I still think rogers isn't Gunna be that great this year though. When I actually make it to a game I will have better updates.

Belton has a touchdown called back, and drives stalled by holding calls, University has a handful of 5 yarders, but University is getting jobbed at more inopportune times? More inopportune than a nullified touchdown and drive killing holding calls? Yeah OK

And you still disregard all the belton mistakes that had they not occurred would have made the game much more lopsided

Rogers will get stronger.

The biggest issue is that they are almost starting from scratch. Most of last years team on both sides graduated with a nice slice of that group playing college ball at the DIII level. A few of the seniors on the team are strong athletes who have been involved in sports other than football until this year, so they are not your typical senior., They should have a big learning curve the longer they play and be much better in a few weeks. There are also many sophs on the team, making the step from the 9th grade team to varsity. Again they simply are not quite ready, but that is what we have. The biggest lost was not Malevets, even with his abilty. The biggest loss was the offensive and defensive line. These guys won the state Linemen's challenge the summer before their senior year. They played as one, almost as if they could read the other's mind. That is what is tough to replace. The 10th graders have good size for their age, but they are so young.

The team does not make excuses. They know that to win they must not give up and must play tough. We need to see what week four brings. A similar group (and I think if was in 06 but could be off a year), lost the first four? games and went undefeated after that. It can happen.

I remember last year the new coach was trying to implement the spread for the Franklin and academy game. After that, they went back to the Wing T, I would almost say since you are starting from scratch, it would almost be the ideal time to try to go to the spread.
