Is that building near the tracks?

Oh, 1500 feet or so before you get to the tracks coming from Temple.

The 1644 turn is after you cross over the Brazos coming from Temple, but before you get to the tracks

Turn right at 1644, then left on highway 79, then right on highway 6

Why is it closed? Guess we will be going through Caldwell all the time then.

it is closed due to repairs on the little Brazos River Bridge.

You do not need to go through Caldwell. If you're coming from Temple. just take 485 to 1644.

It literally only adds about a mile or two to your trip, if that

Train is stopped on the detour and had been for about 45 minutes. I had to go almost to Calvert. Just FYI

Any train people on here? I thought there was a rule that a train couldn't block a roadway for more than a few minutes

EDIT - apparently there is a state law on the books that prohibits a train from blocking an intersection for more than 10 minutes.

However, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the Texas law, saying federal law preempts state law.

Therefore, I guess there is no rule prohibiting a train from blocking an intersection for any amount of time

They can at a switch. I've seen the train on Oscar road stop for almost that long before. I plan on leaving around 2. Maybe I won't take 485.

I hate that whole route except in November about every 10 years when the fall foliage between Hanover and Gause is pretty

It's not so bad. But I do miss the nicer side of hearne that has a sonic and the truck stop with decent bathrooms.

Thanks everybody for the heads up on train obstructions, etc.

We had no issues, but that train was sitting about 50 yards away from the intersection when we crossed both ways

Got me thinking -- this detour could be an issue for all of football and basketball season, and most of baseball season

I have a request --- if anyone runs into any issues at this detour, post an alert on this thread, or on a new one

I think that could be useful during this construction

"Nicer side of Hearne" sure is relative, ain't it???

Since my brother lives between Belton and Little River, we go through Caldwell at least half of the time. It was quick today with no traffic issues. When you get to the first view of Kyle it takes the breath away. With that bridge issue, we probably will not take school kids that route any longer. We usually have to make trips to Hearne and Franklin for spring sports. Might have to go through Milano and head into Hearne that way.
