So the record is 5-4 after last night with one game left on the schedule. Is Shipley's time here disappointing or about what most expected in his second season?

The record is 4-5, with a game to go

If Belton beats Heights on Thursday, Belton is in the playoffs

As for Shipley, he's OK. I have been to a several games and the team is inconsistent, undisciplined at times, and sometines I think he and Spavital went to the same play calling school

Other times the offense looks good

No defense, but that's pretty much most Texas HS programs these days

And several instances of puzzling onside kick attempts, fake field goals, over the last couple of years that have gone bad

Plus, I hear he has already been sniffing out new gigs. Or one new gig, anyway

Rhodes was served up on a silver platter two years ago, and is about to compete for his 4th straight State title

Sorry, I meant 4-5. Why would he be looking around?

Dunno. And maybe it's bad info. I was just told he had put in for a job at another school

Not that there's anything wrong with that

I was just kind of surprised, sort of

That conflicts with my connection but he's not one that Shipley would tell the truth to. According to him, Shipley is completely happy at Belton. We'll see...

No, you're source could be right. I was just told he "applied" for a job around Abilene. Abilene High, perhaps, who hired a new coach this year.

Again, could be bad info

Check with your friend

I have not heard that he is unhappy at Belton. The reason I was told was family in the Abilene area, etc

In any event, the Abilene job was filled with an internal hire, and Bob is still here, and as far as I know likes it here just fine

He did apply for the Abilene job. He has never stayed very long at a school, so it shouldn't be a surprise he's looking. Let's face it. When is the last time Belton had a really good team? We are eventually going to be a 2 high school town. If we can't field a good team with one school, how is that going to change with 2?

Yeah, what I thought. And no, Im not surprised. Shipley doesn't stay anywhere very long. If he's looking over the fence and leaves, then I hope it happens soon before it's too late to get someone like Rhodes

As for the foootball program, oh, I dont buy that it "can't" be good. I think the program could be good with the right leadership. Their losses this year have all been very close games with the exception of Midway, and were the result of costly mistakes and lack of discipline rather than a lack of athletes. Also, it would help to break the mold of typical Texas high school spread coaching, and at least try to field a defense..

As for two schools, yes it will happen eventually, but rest assured Belton will cling to the single high school concept as long as they can.

It's such a weird place in some ways. 3 middles schools, all red and white, all mascots are the Tigers..... if they ever do build a 2d high school, what will it be called -- Belton High School 2? Whatever it is, I'm sure the mascot will be the Tigers and the colors will be red and white. I mean what the hell else are they gonna do with all the red and white tiger gear at all the schools around town? Lol.

Anyway, if and when they do build a 2d high school, you'll probably have two 5A schools for awhile. Kind of like what they did in bryan, college station, and Georgetown. One or both might be competive, until they hit the Temple buzz saw...

But man the identity crisis around town is going to be fun to watch.....

We had this discussion last year and my opinion is that Belton will always struggle to be competitive in football because of it's lack of diversity in the student body. And Belton is very horny about a west temple high school which I'm opposed to. There's nothing wrong with becoming a mega high school like Cy Fair.
But I guess some folks would rather their kids go to school on the north side than the south side. Belton should do like Georgetown and not allow in district transfers at all. Force folks to go to the school that's in their boundary.
Rant over for now.

Cy-Fair ISD has 10 high schools, all ranging in the 3000-3600 range. They'll build more schools. They just can't keep up right now

Belton is around 3000 right now

I think they'll let it get to around 3500 before building a new school

which shouldn't take long, with all the new housing planned in West temple.

Whether splitting is a good idea or not is debatable.

The pros and cons are simple:
Pro - increase student participation across the board
Con - duplicative

I also think you will see a lot more resistance to splitting than you think. old Belton doesn't want to see that happen for a million years

but yeah, as West temple grows, I can see them start to rattle about getting their own high school out there.

Basically they would create a "white" high school and a "minority" high school. That is the big conundrum. There will probably never be a state championship caliber football team from Belton.

Not so much. It seems the current perception is that NBMS is new so it must have more upper middle class kids vs SBMS is in town and must have more poor kids. I have no idea how folks look at LBMS. So we'd have the old high school and a new, north high school. The Leon river ought to make it easy for boundaries but as long as the ISD lets kids transfer in district, their plans to have each school equal is skewed. Out of town people that move here are weird. I had a mom, not from here, ask me if Hilltop was in the "ghetto". If you're not familiar, and I think you are, it's off of Downing, which is off of North Beal. Lol. What a dumb b. I guess these parents that can't stand to have their kids go to SBMS have never ventured into moffat.

Nah. They'll divide the 2 school zones with a boundary that runs North/South to avoid that exact issue

Everybody assumes the line will run East/West and create a a southern "Old Belton" school and a northern "West Temple" school

It won't

The boundary will be roughly 317, similar to the LBMS and SBMS boundaries, with a few deviations to balance out enrollment and demographics

Captain Pablo

Here is the MS boundary map.

North Belton MS is all of Morgans Point and Moffat, and also all of the area out far west Adams west of 317, and a lot of the area out 439 on the south Shore of Lake belton

It probably is a higher income bracket overall than SB and LB

Continuing this stream of consciousness, lol, the latest enrollment figure Belton ISD has on its page is 2013-14 (way to keep it updated, guys)

At that time enrollment was 10,300. Typical enrollment for 2d high school consideration is around 10,000

Enrollment had grown by about 400 from '12-13 to '13-14

It is probably close to 11,000 now, and with the new additions going up in west Temple and Dog Ridge, it will soon top 12,000 easily

And there is plenty of room to grow after that

I'm predicting new HS groundbreaking around 2021

What do y'all think?

mazzag

I'd disagree that it's a higher income bracket. SBMS
Includes Dawson ranch, river place, regatta oaks, red rock, spring canyon, and all the middle-high end homes on 439 and yes, 2410.

I also think the new high school will be built before 2021 because the board will crater to north west temple folks wanting their own school.

Yeah, that's probably correct. SBMS probably has "higher highs, and lower lows" when it comes to income brackets. Although there are some pretty affluent areas out west Adams

I dunno, we'll just have to see what happens. I still think there's a good chance it's not going to break along an East/West dividing line

Also, is there really all THAT MUCH pressure coming out of West Temple to build a school? I have dozens of friends with younger kids who live out there, and I just haven't heard anything like that out of them.

I doubt elementary age kids' parents have thought much about it. It seems middle school is where folks realize that their kids will have to go to school with "those" kids.

Belton could expand new tech. I never realized how coveted it is, maybe because you have to camp for a spot? Or is it all that? I know employee kids get 1st dibs, then it's everyone else. Just a thought.

These are parents of elementary and middle school kids. I'm just not hearing it, and these are not apathetic parents

I am also not hearing the racism from these people. But if racism is driving the desires for a new school, these parents are going to be in for a surprise. Because I do not think the schools will be very different from a racial profile standpoint. I think Belton ISD will see to that, and that's a good thing

honestly, I have have spoken to many parents and students affiliated with new tech. Most like it, but some dont. It's not for everybody.

I can assure you, it would not be something I would have liked, and my kids would not go there either. Not saying it's good or bad, just different. Just not our thing.

And it has nothing to do with academics. Belton high school is plenty challenging in the AP level course work.

I don't think it's a race thing. Sadly, BISD just isn't that racially diverse. I think it's more an economic bias. Not white vs minority's more rich vs poor
