Headed North from College Station and stopped at Love's in Hearne and then the Texas Stop Sign in Marlin (I normally stop in Calvert but since I had just stopped in Hearne, I wasn't ready yet). The forecast in Marlin was - Blizzard
Made it through Riesel without even seeing a police officer
Cruised across the Twin Bridges at 75-80 mph and got passed by a pickup truck and an older Ford Mustang who appeared to be racing each other at about 90-100 mph (amateurs).
Had dinner at the new Hietmiller's near I-35 & Hwy. 6. Good but not great. I remember the other one North of Waco being outstanding. But... that was 20 years ago.
Monday morning, I drove down through McGregor and across Lake Belton Dam and into Killeen on my way to "GRK" Killeen/Fort Hood Airport. I enjoyed the drive and I just love that airport. It's so easy to use and so little drama/hassle compared to most airports I fly through. I could definitely see making that my home airport in the future. And you can fly to 3 desinations (DFW, ATL, IAH) unlike Waco where your only option is to go to Dallas.
